Hi,

We would like to play with Japanese kamikaze fighters.

Is there a standard rule how to make a kamikaze attack?

If not, we have made up our own household rule: The kamikaze fighter selects one ship to attack, needs to survive the AAA fire, then attacks on a 5. If the dice shows 5 or less, both the fighter and the ship (even battleships) explode. If the dice is a 6, the kamikaze fighter crashes in the sea and the ship survives. Makes sense?

Why not just use the preexisting Kamikaze rules from A&A Pacific 1940. You can find a copy of the rule book online at avalonhill.wizards.com/rules. I’ll also quote the rule book for you. I’m feeling generous today…  :-P

Kamikaze Strikes

The Japanese player has the ability to make a special defensive strike against Allied surface warships. Japan is allowed to make 6 kamikaze strikes during the game. These strikes can be made only in sea zones that contain the Kamikaze symbol: those surrounding Japan, Okinawa, Iwo Jima, Formosa, Marianas, and Philippines. If an Allied player attacks Japanese units in or declares an amphibious assault from one of these sea zones, the Japanese player can announce at the beginning of this phase that he or she intends to launch one or more kamikaze strikes in that sea zone. They are resolved before any combat begins.

The Japanese player must declare how many kamikaze strikes will be made, in which sea zone(s) they will be used, and which enemy ship will be struck by each kamikaze before any dice are rolled. For each declared strike, 1 Kamikaze token must be spent (no actual air unit is involved) and will be removed from the game after the strike is resolved. A kamikaze strike can target any specific enemy surface warship (not a submarine or transport) belonging to the attacking power. More than one kamikaze strike can be made against the same ship. Kamikaze strikes hit on an attack roll of 2 or less. If a hit is scored, it must be applied to the chosen unit. Surface warships that are destroyed by a kamikaze strike (capital ships still take 2 hits) are immediately removed and will not participate in the subsequent battle. A kamikaze strike prevents offshore bombardment supporting an amphibious assault in that sea zone, whether or not the strike is successful (place the used Kamikaze token in the sea zone until you resolve the amphibious assault to remind you that the ships may not bombard).

So, now you know.  8-)

@Der-Kuenstler Not bad, I myself just Revise the Mongolian rule being rather simple in my current YouTube House rules game/ If JAPAN declares War on Russia in any way, the Mongol troops goes to the Soviets- If the Soviets declares War on JAPAN (including going to China’s defense), RUSSIA don’t get them troops!!!

Here’s another example of how determined ordinary Soviet infantrymen could be, especially in engagements with high symbolic value.  In a book that he wrote, Marshal Chuikov describes an incident that allegedly occured during the Red Army’s assault on Berlin.  A Soviet tank somehow got isolated during the street fighting for the city and was damaged by a German anti-tank round.  All but one of its crew were killed.  The surviving (though wounded) crewman kept working the main gun, loading and aiming and firing it by himself.  When the main gun ran out of ammunition, or was wrecked by another enemy hit (I can’t remember which; I read the book a long time ago), the Russian soldier proceeded to fire the tank’s machine gun at the nearby Germans.  When that ran out of ammunition, he started lobbing grenades out of the tank to drive off the Germans who were pounding on the hull and demanding that he surrender.  A fresh Soviet unit finally arrived and forced the Germans to retreat.  The Russian reinforcements got into the wrecked tank and found the last crewman inside.  He was dying of his wounds, but he was holding a knife in his hand, ready to use it to make a final stand against any German soldier who had tried to enter the tank.  After telling the other soldiers what had happened, his final words were supposedly, “Thank you, comrades, for not leaving my body in the hands of the Fascists.”

I think that NO is historical correct.

The DEI produced a lot of crude oil during WWII and that made it valuable. But you have to refine crude oil into gas and diesel before you can put it on your tanks and trucks, so since DEI is a short way from Japan, this oil was more valuable to Japan, that could put it to good use in no time, than to USA or Europe that had to sail the crude oil to the other side of the globe in order to refine it to gas and diesel, and then sail it back again to use it in trucks and tanks at the frontier.

So your trying to tell me Australia had no refineries?

I’m sure they did, but what was their refining capacity. I think the Allies are stacked enough, without the extra NO

Actually, I would say all tanks are A: 3 D: 2 but you can combine it with an infantry for it to D: 3 if they are American, Russian or German.  Potentially British.

Italy, ANZAC, Japan and France would not be able to combine these.

It’d be more in line with BLITZKRIEG since Germany could combine an infantry iwth a tank, and a tank with a tactical bomber for extra punch on offense and defense, more akin to what they actually did.

League of Nations:

Political costs for a DOW along the Russian/Japanese border result in world outrage against the aggressor nation.

If Russia conducts a DOW against Japan, the U.S. will remain neutral 1 additional turn and will not interfere with Japanese aggression against UK and ANZAC in the Pacific since they are the “victim” nation. Fear of Communism fuels American pacifism and ties Roosevelt’s hands. The Japanese Ambassador exposes a (faked) “Caucasian” treaty between Russia, UK, and ANZAC dealing with the suppression and division of Japanese assets/territories.

If Japan conducts a DOW against Russia, the U.S. will remain neutral 1 less turn and they become a “friendly” power with the pacific allies, permitting the landing of US units on allied territories and providing sea units for a common defense until a formal DOW occurs between the US and Japan. These land and sea units upon meeting with allied forces/fleets change flags (I.E. swap US vessels/units with UK,China,USSR or ANZAC pieces) to maintain “neutrality”.

JA 15:  Is this a persistent NA or only used once?

e.g., Capture India on Turn 3 - double Income for India Turn 4
      Capture Persia on Turn 4 - double Income for Peria Turn 5
      Capture Trans-Jordan on Turn 5 - double Income for Trans-Jordan Turn 6
