RR & 2HBS - Can Germany Take UK in T1??

IMO the German Med fleet is one of the most overrated pieces on the board b/c in reality Germany cannot afford to send any troops from Europe anyway.  The game is won or lost in Europe and Africa is merely a sidebar so to that end no great lengths should be taken to protect the German BB.  A few exceptions are to send it to the WMed to threaten the Uk1 naval build so as to make them not build or waste a ftr to destroy a bb.  However this assumes you have enough air to be able to attack all other units of the Royal Navy which is iffy at best.  Another reason to spare the bb is by going to Syria on G1 along with a take of AES f/Libya this helps protect Africa and gives Germany a huge ipc boom going on into the game.  However, its very difficult to say if Germany will be able to afford this in Europe without risking EEuro so in general I’d say that the best move is to simply kack the bb against the Med bb and concentrate air in the UkSz while using the transport to landgrab Cauc or whatever.

I find a major contradiction here. The package is put together soo poorly that it is not even played on the zone, or ever was (cept for the first 2 weeks it ever was spammed).
If you are serious about wanting to play on the zone, you are in for a very big surprise. The bugs that show up in online play in every phase dwarf anything you’ve seen while playing the AI offline. And this is an understatement!

Exactly. This is always my first turn buy as well, and it is for about 90% of my opponents, too - and if the Allies haven’t destroyed both transports by turn 3 or 4, they are in trouble.

Usually I purchase an extra sub, not a transport. Of course, I would also have to do this with a bid.

TG is closer to the mark - you should send 2 inf a turn as long as you can… which will only be 2 or 3 turns.

I have both. I found that AA is a bit better, but sence i have both i can play with destroyers and the escort rule for SBRs. AA is good for the first time cause it gives the poor axis player an allie =). but yes, the AAE is much more balanced.

Although it sets me back 30 IPCs, I prefer to build complexes in both S. Africa and Egypt. Then I roll 4 tanks a turn up Japan’s (sometimes soft) underbelly.

I agree, as well. It’s just I wonder at the investment: If you’re thinking pure Sea Zone defense, you’d think 3 SUB would be a better investment than 2 FTR: in an attack, the 3 SUBs would score about 1 hit consistently, same as 2 FTRs. But SUBs can defend in Sea Zones (at least against ships), where FTR’s (without a CV) cannot. SUBs are more survivable than FTRs because they have their submerge/withdraw abilities. SUB hits (unlike FTR hits) cannot be countered. And 3 SUBs represent 1 extra casualty you can take should the battle go poorly.

I guess the reason German SUBs never seem to appear in signifigant numbers is the threat of USSR. It’s easy to justify the money spent on FTRs because when you’re not using them to fight sea battles, you can use them against Russia. SUBs are virtually useless against the mainly landlocked USSR and so nobody ever purchases many of them…what a shame.

when this happens it usually means that karelia is a bloody mess. I agree with the purchase of an arcraft carrer and one plane. the us needs it’s resources to stop japan from insuring axis victory over russia, so - depending on how things go in karelia you can either take western europe, spain, or land forces in gibralter… or as i have found right in the midst of a forward air field in eastern europe or finland. sometimes if the germans are in bad enough shape i’ve even been able to help russia recover karelia. but these are basically spoilling attacks. designed to divert forces away from russia. with the aircraft carrier in place germany can’t afford to attack your fleet. so you are not stuck on your island, and any trasport fleet you build for a real invasion will be safe. challenge my opinion at danwatkins01@yahoo.com but come prepared!
