I don’t know if any of you have played this game it’s a squad level hex type WWII strategy game.
I was at a game store a couple of months ago and I was asking about Avalon Hill games. You can rarely find them these days. The lady at the desk mentioned that Curt Schilling, pitcher for the AZ Diamondbacks had bought ASL. I realy didn’t believe it at the time, but I have since found out that it is true. He basicly bought a publishing company and aquired the rights to the game from Hasbro, who owns Avalon Hill now. Maybe he’ll pick some up my other old favorites like Third Reich!
Must be nice to have the money to buy the rights to manufacture your hobby. :wink:
I have playd it once or twice.
A firend of mine owns a lot of it.
And he was totally right when he said “it’s not the better player that wins ASL, but the one who knows more rules!”……
the major drawback of the game is that it’s way too complicated to be played as a boardgame: (“wait, you have which calibre of supporting artillery shooting at what hex? Oh no… see, we have strong winds here and fog there, and as it is wednesday you can’t use that calibre shooting into hills as long as you have an officer sitting in that house…” or something like that). A PC adaption would probably be extremely good (like Europa Universalis II is better than the boardgame).
Indeed, F_alk. You should see the rule book of ASL, it’s massive. I bought it a few months ago and I’m still trying to understand most of the concepts presented.
