If you are looking for additional opinions:
I would agree with the proposal to proceed with the current Alpha 2 version the players are familiar with.
These rules have been out for a while, and while there are concerns about balance, any changes to address this balance in Alpha 3 may prove to be unbalancing for the other side. If Alpha 3 arrives on schedule, between now and the next tournament, players will have had time to adjust to the new platform.
This seems like a more level playing field, in that if there is a new exploit to be found with the new rule set, most players will be forewarned by the next tournament. As it stands, changing to a new set could result in some unexpected eliminations due to the new conditions.
There will be plenty of time to test Alpha 3 outside of the tournament. (especially if your game concludes prior to the next rounds).
In closing, sticking with what we know, assures us that we won’t switch to something that might be better. More importantly, it could prove to be worse. How quickly did the community switch from A1 to A2 for example.
