Man, this is not my day. Right before this game I lost like 3 90% battles in a row.
Kar holds with an infantry

Either one of those battles would have won me 7 or 9 IPC’s. I had like 90% or so on both.

Gonna make an observation while I think about this move. Not really sure what i’m going to do.
I think I lost (ed.still to be determined) this game when the UK attack on the Italian fleet went tits up. Now, I’m not complaining about the dice here, both of us have gotten bent odds the whole game. My observation is this: there was some chance of the UK getting smoked in that battle, as happened. The fact that it happened has revealed that that what I thought of as strategy (take out Italy’s fleet to limit their income and effect on the game) was actually a gambit, because the UK put itself into a position where by losing that battle they eliminated themselves from the game.
This is a paradym change for my normal thinking, which is that a battle that is “good odds”, define them how you will, is worth fighting because it should hurt your enemy worse than you. This battle has revealed that a decisive battle at good odds that results in the loss of the game isn’t good enough odds.

Excellent observation, and thanks for sharing. I often make the mistake of not considering where I’ll be at if the unthinkable (2%, 5%, 10% or even 20% odds of failure, depending on the situation) happens.
Take your time - I’m playing all the A&A I want and I still am not caught up :-)
Man I love the internet. -

The Russian carriers have made a huge impact!
Take that, all you people who say Russia should never ever buy boats…. :-D
-
I dont know about huge impact, but hey, I should be able to build a UK fleet this turn too, screened by the USSR CVs, good stuff.
-
PGMatt, you DO know you cannot mobilize UK fighters onto the russian carriers when you buy them in the UK turn right?
-
yuh, the book really isn’t ambiguous about that. That was why I wanted both fighters on one flattop so I had a cannon fodder boat.
-
doesn’t matter if they are on the same or different carriers because the surviving fighters can land anywhere after the battle (any valid spot within 1 space). the cannon fodder idea only comes into play if you are attacking with carriers (the fighters are then just cargo and go down with the boat if the boat is sunk). so if you are being attacked, it wouldn’t matter what carriers the fighters were on.
