Europe 1940 - 2 vs 4

Italy can’t go first. The axis are already too powerful. I have never won a Europe game playing against myself on the europe board with allies. Italy going before UK would mean Italy is a juggernaut! Also keep the french units. They don’t do much, but making them UK wouldn’t be historical at all.

All, just an FYI, but there is an A&A 40 Pacific discussion thread re: the Alpha set-up for the Pacific in the global game re: Siam. Since there is no truly “Global” site, just an FYI.

Don’t ever capture paris - you’ll see why.

Advertise to your opponent, if you want to stress him out, all your “Possible angles” of attack…  all the territories you can take… he’ll likely try to underdefend everything, and forget what actually matters.

Why wouldn’t you take Paris?  It’s not really that difficult, and every turn you don’t take it you’re denying yourself France’s IPCs and letting them build up more (probably not a huge amount, but it’s so easy to stop early).

Depending on who you capture Paris with, when you do it, and when the Axis takes it back, it could be bad. For example, if Great Britain liberates France (their capital, not the other territories), Italy can ignore it. If the US doesn’t have a lot of units to reinforce it, France will collect their income of X IPCs. Then, on Germany’s turn, they can take France back, not only gaining back the income of the actual territory, but also getting all the IPCs that France is holding at that time.

I do not know if the Alpha 2 rules apply to Europe 1940 as they are written specifically for Global 1940.  Certain changes may have disproportionate effects on the game if you remove Japan, Australia and India from the picture.

However, perhaps the Europe half of the “Kill America First” strategy would be beneficial here (assuming Alpha 2 applies to Europe version.)

Nutshell Description: 10-13 Transports and accompanying fleet in SZ 91 which is in range of Canada, United States, Gulf of Mexico, Brazil and England.  You can have the 20-26 troops split between Morocco and Gibraltar as you see fit.

Nutshell Goals: Split the allied forces to defend more territories; snipe American and British National Objectives; threaten the US directly (encouraging ground units instead of naval units to be purchased); secure the Med; Allow the Italians to come out and join you (great for dealing iwth Allied navies!  Can open with the Italians, go for the meat with the Germans.)

I got hit last week by a sea lion on G2. And lost…famously in fact.
On G1 I lost all of my fleet with exception of my med cruiser and atlantic units, which are needed to block the Eastern Gibraltar lane (preventing the Eye-Ties to go for Gibraltar which I would do as Italian player till the US-Cavalry comes storming in…)
G1 my opponent bought like 4 or 5 transports and some artillery, and as i decided to put a minor force in scotland (dunno why i thought it important at that time (scared for a threat to Iceland and Canada I think to delay my GI´s and Cavalry) but whatever, my 9 INF which i placed in Britain were not enough to repel the coastal bombardment with 8 land units and the combined strengt of the German Luftwaffe. Those airplanes are doing a lot of damage to ur units and the Germans just have more of them than the Brits. So next time I see the German player build an invasion fleet, I will throw 9 INF and everything I can get into London. Which may or may not be enough. Just doing the math, it is touch and go if the German player is dedicated, and if u throw lousy the German player may even break-even on the IPC´s, sail back on G3 to Russia and attack there on G4 (England-invasion troups in the Baltics and the troops that swept through the Balkans going for the southern INvasion route)

Which brings me to the last point… why would a german player want to buy a carrier on turn 1…? cant find a reason. built the thing with some tin cans after taking England ^^

The carrier is for sufficient protection for the transport fleet, especially OOB (no scrambling). Without it, UK can come and take out all the transporters, and be safe for Sealions.
It can also make a difference, serving for a landing place for 2 planes, giving more options for Sealion.
About Canada… you didn’t need to worry about that, really. It is annoying, but it shouldn’t distract you from the main goal: keeping London.
USA will (and must) take care of this. If London still falls, those Canadian territories will become American. If London doesn’t fall, those are German units that have not been fighting against London or Russia. Also fleet that goes to Canada won’t be back soon.

The only problem could be if Japan joins with a lot of air force in order to hit the USA. But since this is Europe… :D

why the americans on turn 2 are near afrika?

I assume you meant to put “owned” instead of “pwned” when talking about a Barbarossa/Stalingrad game in reference to Battle of the Bulge or Guadalcanal. I agree here too. At least for me, a game such as that would probably have owned the others.

I think some kind of A&A Russian-front game would be the brilliant, but I don’t hold out much hope of seeing one.

I won’t continue, since I’ve made my feelings clear and this is just one of those ‘we don’t agree’ type issues. I also don’t want to sound like I wouldn’t be able to enjoy / play the game because of it, which obviously isn’t true.

However, I will still say this…

I think some of them, like some people here, clearly would give a damn. For that reason alone designers should take certain things into account. I don’t hold WotC in particularly high esteem, since they have a habit of short-changing the consumer on many small aspects of games which in reality would take almost no effort or cost to put right. Larry only has input which goes so far, and he has my respect. But Wizards do too many irritating things, and to me, this is just another one of them.
