Presumably something like 10 mechs and 6 subs would be useful. 6 subs plus 4 bombers gets you plenty of opportunities against Allied navy at Gibraltor or to start convoying England. But subs are soooo bad at defending it seems it would be easy to lose.

Anyone try something like this? Or anything else unusual?

I assume you mean if a J1 DOW happens, but in that case the US isn’t restricted to staying at East US, and I’d argue that stationing at East Canada makes a ton more sense than Greenland.

The Allies have to control Turkey at the beginning of the Russian turn for Russia to move ships through the Straits.

Also, according to the rule book: “If a canal or narrow strait is controlled by a power not on your side, but with which you are not yet at war, you must ask permission to use it, which may be denied.”
So in a very theoretical situation, Germany could capture Turkey before being at war with Russia, and allow Russian ships to pass through the Straights. But I don’t think that ever happens.

I like to find ideas and optimized them inside specific guidelines.
These last one was invented while writing on it, never know that something that I found also interesting could come out of it!

However, it needs someone like you to come with the big picture and completely outside the box ideas.

In the mean time, Germany got to plunder the British treasury and run hog wild on Russia while Italy gets strong in the Med and Africa since the UK can no longer replace their losses there. I suppose India could send stuff over to face Italy, but what if they are being pressured by Japan?

Yes, but Germany spent 2 rounds of income on a fleet so they essentially lose their ground units, probably some air units, the French treasury and whatever ground they have left would be sitting on London, assuming this worked/works.

So what’s holding back the Russians at that point?  They can DOW the round London falls.  (great, now I have that Fergie song in my head!  Bastages!!!)

To be able to land a plane in a territory, the territory has to be under controll by you or your allies at the begining of your turn.

If Germany pretends it is alone on the map against England I believe they can forceably capture London on G4 after dropping a large number of units in scotland G3. The G3 Landing only has 60ish attack pips not a sure thing.

The G3 landing I calculate 81 pips vs 60, assuming Germany has five planes survive the AA gun and made a G2 Scotland landing.  England narrow the gap by attacking sz111 or Scotland, but not by enough.  I’ve presented these figures in the first post, edited last night.  Check it out!

What can be mustered to the defense of Germany depends on the strength and position of Italy, as well as exactly what America is doing.  This is probably going to require (much) more play testing.  Fortunately that’s fun!

Your Japanese ally could pour into siberia trying to hunt the 18 inf down and busting the line to distract Russia. Japan going after India probably isnt going to happan presuming Japan waits to attack until J4 just so america cant help defend London. By then india owns the DEI and is making 27ipc a turn.

Japan won’t be far into Siberia this early, but every dollar taken from Russia helps.  By turn two Japan should have a major IC in Manchuria and should be in India by turn four.  SBRs against Russia should begin as soon as a landing strip has been established.  This brings a lot of pressure to Russia, but not soon enough to stop a R5 invasion of Berlin.  germany needs to hold out a little longer.

One of these days I’m going to look seriously at harassing North America with Japan.  I don’t expect they’ll do very well, but the diversion may be enough to save Italy and German occupied England.  One of these days…
