We use the army pieces from the 2008 RISK as movement trackers.
I have seen a lot of people use the cities from this game as Industrial complexes and such.
The army pieces are arrows with either 1 chevron or 3 chevrons. So when we move something we place the corresponding arrow piece. Once all the units movement points are spent we flip the arrow upside down.

Usually Italy clears the French ships and Germany clears whatever targets are left in G2.

From what I remember doing

G1: carrier (save 14 IPC, collect 51 (france, Yugo,fin) + 17 french = 81)
G2: 20 mech

USSR 1: 1 ftr, 4 art, 5 inf
USSR 2: 5 art 7 inf

UK1 EU: 6 inf 1 ftr
UK2 EU: Depends, mIC in egupt/ Carrier in europe/ 2 infs and trannie in s Africa / start building ftrs

UK1 P: All inf
UK2 P: mostly inf, if at peace. If at war, some fleet/ftrs and some land

Anzac1: 3 inf
anzac2: start builign ftrs while making some landunits

USA1: if a peace: 9 subs, if at war: 2 carriers, 1 sub and 2 DD for japan
USA2: 2 carriers for europe, 2 carriers 2 subs for japan

it1: either ftr or 1 mech, 1 tank for easter front.
it2: 1 mech + ftr + ??? Depends on money

Since were all talking about G39…
Does anyone know if there is a simplified version of G39?
I have the latest map, it’s beautiful. But a little too complex and too many outside pieces required.
To me G40 is a great ruleset.

I would love to play a version that is G40 style with 39 setup on the 39 map.
It would also be much more appealing to new players.

The allies can always make sealion next to impossible if they really set their mind to it (UK build infantry, no Taranto, bring ships home, get Canadians, prepare US airstrike).  If they do everything in their power to make it costly and Germany still goes for it, then Germany will be in bad shape after the sealion “victory”.  In that case, losing London is bad but not necessarily a total disaster.  Suppose the opponents don’t really like playing Japan and they’re not very good at it.  As long as USA, USSR and remnant of UK can hold the line against germany, the axis are placed in the crummy position of having to win as Japan.  In that case, it might actually be preferable to intentionally allow a (costly) sealion in order to put the onus on Japan.  If its a team game and the guy playing Germany is more skilled than the guy playing Japan, then coaxing them into a costly sealion might work out OK for the allies.

Well, the UK will slow down Italy, but with no builds/reinforcements from elsewhere, Italy will overwhelm them eventually and without US intervention it’ll go quickly to a 40-50 IPC Italy.

Depends on what the counterattack looks like, no?  If all they can bring is two infantry, I think I might go with the tank.  Dunno how to calculate financial value on that one, though.
