It might have worked somewhat Xi, Ralph Nader didn’t do too well in 2000 as some thought he would!! I think he got less than half those votes they thought he would get. Does any body have the numbers??
There’s always a chance. Ross Perot got enough votes (19%, I think)in '92 to elect Clinton(taking votes from GHW Bush.) Perot’s #s got him matching funds for the '96 election(11% of the vote). This set up Pat Buchanan to run with matching funds. But Buchanan didn’t get enough to insure matching funds for the 2004 candidate of the Reform Party(the final name for the Perot Party) to receive matching funds.
When a third party gains ground it will cripple one of the major parties. this will enable the intact party to win a majority of votes/seats for a few elections. At least until the weaker parties can peel off other voters from the power party. The last three elections have affected both the Dems and Reps.
Xi do you think the Green party will do better in 2004?? I think they are gaining ground in Calforania and Washington. Could this cripple the Democrat party in the near future in those 2 states?? I will not be surprised if Ralph Nader runs for them in 2004.
I doubt the Green party will live long. Unlike Ross Perot, Ralph Nadar doesn’t have a great deal of popular backing. Enviromentalism as a premise for a political party will never work.
However, our Government would really benefit from a third part. The reform party has some great people in it, they just can’t get many votes. Jesse Ventura, as I’ve said a million times, would make an amazing President.
Whats it going to take for a third party to spring up? Its going to take dissent in one (or both) political parties where many politicians decide to leave their party. For example, there have been many rumors of John Mccain (and many of his political allies) leaving the Republican party.
The green party isn’t going to survive becasue of the ideology that they believe in. Am I mistaken, or aren’t they the people who are for legalizing drugs and all that crap?

Now that is new to me. I’m not saying they will be larger that either the Dems or Reps. But havn’t you guys heard on non-presidantial elections they are either keeping their numbers or getting more. I think thats why the Democrat Party is starting to act like them on the West Coast.

I think the Green Party needs a ‘new face’ for president, not Nader. The younger generation is not aware of his ‘history.’ They want someone with a ‘present.’
I think the Dems will lose votes to the Green, Reform and Republican Party in 2004. Except for catastrophy, and yes it does happen, Bush is a two-term Pres.
Ventura is glitz with good advisors, but when he talks long enough without a script, the true obnoxity :P offends enough folks that “Ventura ist Verbotten(sp.?)” from victory by voters!
McCain, As I said somewhars, appears in poor health, and will not win in 2008(I think a Dem will get it.) His health will not hold out untill 2012.

Dems are thinking ahead. If he is still ahead in Sept. They plan to draft Hillary. She is the only one they see who can beat him(when included in the polls, even though she is not running.) They believe the early exposure will help her in 2008 if she loses this time.

He’s going to host his own prime time show (8 O’clock timeslot) on MSNBC, starting whenever he is ready (since Donahue was cancelled, Pat Buchanon and Bill Press are doing double duty and hosting the 8 O’Clock timeslot in addition to the 2-4 timeslot).
