I am not sure Napoleon was ever really himself after the Russian campaign. What he expected after his victory at Borodino and what really turned out was very different. Expecting the Russians to surrender only having them chase him all the way back to France may have put some doubt in his mind. Maybe that doubt is what affected his decisions at a place like Waterloo. I know in sports that if you loose your confidence it can be hard to get back. I imagine the same could be said about war generals. Just a thought. Enjoyed the post.
Grant or Sherman, who was the better general?
-
Both were the best North genrals the Union had but who would you say had a bigger impact in the Souths fall in the U.S. CIVIL WAR. Was it GRANTS pinning down Robert E. Lee and always threating Richmond? OR Was it Shermans Deep invasion of the South and the destruction of Atlanta?? OR Were their stratgies of equal value??
Yanny - Changed title, please remember to turn off caps lock

As much as I hate him, I have to place my hat in with Sherman. :-?
He drive was unseen since General Patton after him. -
Grant, yes, he kept the South down. But Sherman, he made the killing blow. Hundreds of thousands more could of died had Sherman not broke the south’s spine.

If you want to know the answer to this question all you have to do is ask a southerner “who is the most hated General in history?”
They will always say Sherman.
