Battle Report

I see both sides. Depends upon who you are playing with. While it wasn’t france….the best victory I ever had was one in which I got diced trying to sink the American fleet at Gilbraltor. Had 98 percent odds of winning. Lost my whole airforce and  the American transports were still alive. Desperate measures followed. I relentlessly attacked Moscow the next 2 turns even though I couldn’t take it…then bought all bombers for the final push with my stragglers getting into range. The bombers were my hail Mary prayer because pressure was building on the western front. Moscow fell…allies conceded due to my income and the fact it was a one front war. Had I not been desperate who knows if I would have slow played Russia to long. I had just enough defense in Europe to turtle and hold. Had the bombers failed it was game over for me…but the fact I had a chance to pull a rabbit out of the hat is what  are the game fun.

Yes. Providing that Queensland is either in Allied hands or has/will only be taken this round. Point is that if Queensland is a valid landing space for Japanese planes, they don’t ditch.

I never attended a military academy and yet in this game with Karl7  http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=32567.270I  I conquered all of Europe all by myself.  But in the end I was stabbed in the back by my own generals, even the SS.  I should have liquidated the whole general staff like Stalin did. What a monstrous betrayal of the German people!

In the end we were dug in with 5 AA, 1 bomber, 251 infantry, 1 artillery, 5 mech, 10 armor, 5 tacs, and 8 fighters defending Berlin against the final onslaught of allied subhuman scum.

First the Bolsheviks came in with 9 armour, 1 artillery, 1 bomber, 21 infantry, 4 mech_infantrys and 1 tactical_bomber but they failed to defeat me.

Then the Americans gave it a try with 57 armour, 51 artilleries, 6 bombers, 11 fighters, 126 infantry and 6 tactical_bombers.  They also failed to defeat me and I was safe in my Fuhrer bunker with 2 fighters left.

But finally the traitors drowned in their own blood.  The British finished me off with 13 armour, 6 artilleries, 5 fighters, 32 infantry and 4 mech_infantrys

In hind sight, do you think the UK should have attacked the Italians fleet in the same manner, or would you attack the Destroyer and Transport with an all out amphibious assault on Libya or Tobruk?. That way, you could get odds and scramble planes from Malta in a defense effort during an Italy 1 attack.

Yes, I think that moving everything to Malta and then launching an amphibious assault on Torbruk would be the best bet.  I think that you either need to put the UK Alexandria/ Egypt forces on the offensive right away or have them fall back… otherwise, I see them getting destroyed on I2 unless you sacrifice the UK fleet and block SZ 98.

If you attacked Tobruk, you could pick up the Inf and Art from Egypt, have the mech (in Egypt) move through Alexandria, and have all of the ground forces in Alexandria join the fight, you would have:

UK:  3 INF, 2 ART, 1 Tank, 1 Tac Bomber, 1 Fighter (if you bring the one from Malta)

Italy:  3 INF, 1 ART, 1 Mech, 1 Tank

can’t italy ravish the british navy then, killing remaining brits in africa later through landings on tobruk, egypt and moving out of uncaptured ethiopia (to iraq?) ?

Yes, but the English can rebuild them very fast while the Italians cannot.

  My interp. of this is 1 sub, 1 carr with 2 planes. the sub gets a hit what happens …… the carr is tipped and the planes are in the air  if the sub does not fire a second shot then the planes need to land within their movement allowance. If you had 2 subs and they both hit then the carr would go down  I would say the planes would get away because subs cant hit air units

The movement allowance is only one when defending. The planes would need to land on an adjacent island, coastal tt, or friendly carrier w/room on board.

If you oppenet selects the Cv as the OOL you always retreat and cost them the fighters it turns out better for you as you can then attack again especially if the Cv has one or two turns to take before it reaches a port

As the attacker yes, it’s great when your opponent takes the CV as a hit (and especially if they have nowhere to land the fighters).

As the defender, you don’t get the opportunity to retreat so if the attacker takes the CV as a hit, they still have more offense than they would if they lost a fighter (even if they end up losing all their fighters in the end, they have a greater chance of winning).

I guess it all depends on which side you’re on and how badly you want/need to win that naval battle.

i didn’t know you could place units in the black sea; i would have done it in my game as germany. i figured w/o turkey taken over that move was illegal. maybe someone more important, krieg, could verify this information.

You can place units in a seazone bordering a IC. Turkey is only important for crossing the Dardenelles from turkey to greece. This is useful so you don’t have to transport units to Africa but can move them from Europe to Africa.

I think the Italian fleet is there to replicate the attack on Taranto. It is like, why is France there, if only to be killed by the Germans. Or why have a British fleet, if it will be mostly sunk. However, there are two subs in the area that can attempt to sink the carrier and destroyer, but it might fail, and the might leave you with more British ships alive by England, and that is not good.
I am playing the game on Saturday, so I’ll post my opinions afterwards.
