GTO only has the Revised and 42 editions.  Perhaps you are confusing Revised with Anniversary.

Sorry, it’s been a while since I’ve been on GTO. Are the Anniversary rules much different from Spring 1942?

Generally, I like the idea, but I think the Allied counters I proposed, if properly executed, should leave the Axis with - well not PROBLEMS, but not an out and out victory either.

Strat bombing is good in 1942 also, far better than Revised.  Bombers drop to 12?  Woaah.  I mean, yeah, I’d probably still want to use bombers against hard targets, but this is ANOTHER whole Craig Coburn thing where he takes these Jap bombers and I-Bombs Russia.  He never COULD pull it out in Revised, but 12 IPC bombers changes things, it really does - especially with the new costs, insta-death transports, and even sub fodder rules.

I hear alot of people say that revised is more complicated than spring 1942. Now I played the classic version when I was 12. Sure it was a long time but aside from the tech and the board being diffrent I dont see to many changes from the two, and neither one really seems more complicated than the other.

So what happand in revised that was taken away that makes it more complicated than Spring 1942

Other than the Technology and the National Advantages (although the NAs were optional) the game system is essentially the same. I almost never play with Tech because it can be a game breaker.

My friend and I recently picked up this game, and I was wondering, what expansions can I use with this version?  I know the rules have been changed, so I’m wondering if there is any way of incorporating older versions or if there are any official expansions for this one.

Also, is there any way I can makeshift modify the 1942 edition back to the revised edition?  I’ve printed off a list of the rules changes, but I’m wondering if there are any IPC values on territories or other map changes, or anything else, that I would have to change as well.

Hey there. I’m not aware of any expansions/scenarios for 1942, it might be too soon for them since the game got released a few months ago and all the attention seems to be focused on AA50.

1942 is essentially a ‘revised’ Revised. The map changes are on North America (W. Can doesn’t connect with C. US, SZ55 and SZ63 anymore) plus the addition of Formosa and Iceland. The rest remains the same as Revised. If you find a copy of Revised somewhere I’d advise you to get it since the map is slightly bigger and it cames with a lot of extras (battleboard instead of battlestrip, printed money, etc.) and you can use the Revised board to play 1942 (that’s what I do) as long as you remember the changes to NA. If you can’t find it there are a few threads on this section with improved maps that you can print.
