You’re absolutely correct.

While in playing games against myself which are lower stakes I sometimes try it, when it comes to actual, serious games against other players I stay well away from it.

It’s mostly if you just want to spice the game up and you don’t care about winning or losing.

That being said the technology does give you great advantages depending in the power and technology.

Super Subs+Improved Shipyards almost guarantees US or Japanese (depending on who got both of them) dominance in the Pacific.

Of course getting those two technologies is not easy, but it’s not impossible.

In what way would taking your allies into battle even remotely slow the game?

YOU CAN’T COME IN HERE AND ASK A QUESTION LIKE THAT… YOU’LL START A WAR! (lol, just kiding).

The simple thing to do is to give 1 free dice for anyone entering the R&D phase by purchasing at least 1 dice.
So, buy 1 and get 2, buy 2 and get 3, buy 3 and get 4…

Another idea is to have each major power choose 1 tech at the beginning of the game, each get 1 free dice during each turn, add each result from all rolls throughout the rounds until they reach 25, at which point that nation will receive the tech they choose at the start of the game.

I just saw the pics of all the new mech inf units, they are all gun free.  I feel bad for even doubting… :-(

I never buy tech in Global, i have better uses for the money.

(also, in Anniversary i ALWAYS got to get radar as USA, pissed me off so badly!)

Good idea, but i think if you use long strips of paper and alot of folding, you can do with less stapling and get soemthing like this:

Yep, you lost all when you got a tech. We made a houserule that if you accidentily rolled two 6’s you was allowed two rolls and could pick the tech you liked.

All powers may roll for technology. China will only benefit from advanced artillery, if they have it. If China acquires an AA gun then that would be 2 other techs, rockets and radar. It sucks that the research token way is gone. In global we buy research dice, meaning if you lose, your money is gone.

So it’s back to the Revised edition way?
