Thanks Krieg, clears it up for me. I would like to see a rule modification whereby the subs could ignore the surface fleet assuming there was no DD in the case where they start out in a hostile SZ thus allowing them to move during the non-combat movement phase. Although, that would hurt me in my present situation so just wait until my game is over before changing the world for me…… wry grin
Destroyer, Fighter and Sub Question
-
Okay I am unclear about how this would work. If I build a fleet of subs and air craft carriers with a destroyer in it. Then I get attacked by just bombers and fighters, would my subs be able to be removed as casualties and fight back since I have a destroyer, or would the subs not be able to participate because the enemy is attacking with planes only and did not bring a destroyer. I am just a little unclear on this.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Destroyers allow planes friendly to them to hit enemy subs. Subs can’t hit planes under any circumstances.
In your example, the defending subs could not be chosen as casualties because the attacker doesn’t have a destroyer. They also can’t fire back because the attacking force consists entirely of planes. If the attacker did have a destroyer, the defending subs could be taken as casualties as long as the destroyer wasn’t sunk, and they could fire back, but could only hit the destroyer.

Okay that will make me think about my plans a bit.
Thanks
