Revised more complicated than spring 1942?

I have Revised (2004), and I will be getting 1942 2nd Ed.  Because the Revised map is pretty much the same as 1942 1st Ed., I figured I could just play 1942 on the older board. I have the instruction book PDF. I also saw the set up info on the Resources page, but I was wondering if any of the members here actually made their own cards or if they have a really good scan of them or something like that (I would be printing them out and laminating), because let’s face it. I just have no skill doing that kind of stuff.  Thanks  =)

Map & setup changes:

UK Battleship on SZ13 replaced with a Cruiser UK Destroyer on SZ35 replaced with a Cruiser US Destroyer on SZ10 replaced with a Cruiser J Destroyer on SZ50 replaced with a Cruiser Formosa (J) and Iceland (UK) have been added to the map Western Canada now only borders SZ64 (on Revised it bordered Central US, SZs63 & 55) Central US now borders Eastern Canada and Panama instead of W. Canada and Mexico

In case Krieghund comes in on this, here’s a question - what happens if the attacker couldn’t retreat to a legal adjacent sea zone?  That is, suppose UK built a cruiser and two transports in the sea zone between London and Paris on UK’s turn.  Then suppose Germany moved some subs to that sea zone on Germany’s turn (but submerged), then UK picked up and dropped off from London to Paris.  In that case, UK attacked, but didn’t move attacking units, so then the attacker couldn’t “retreat to an adjacent sea zone that one of the attackers had come from” because the attackers didn’t move at all.  Would that mean UK could NOT retreat in such a case?

Yes, that’s what it means.  However, in this case UK could simply ignore the subs and would have no reason to retreat.

In genken’s scenario, if the UK fleet could not retreat the battle would end once the attacker was reduced to only planes and the defender to only subs, and the transports would be automatically destroyed.

Curious.   I don’t dispute differences in the maps.   But, how are they major?   And, how do they make a difference with experienced players?

1st…  In revised… if you had a bomber on britain… you could attack boats in SZ 63 now you can’t because Alaska is extended to the top of the map and Western canada does not touch that SZ. this could also affect moving planes to Russia through the north.

2nd… In revised SZ 55 also touched western Canada, fighters there could attack the waters of pearl harbor and land back in W. Canada.

3rd… In Revised Central America was drawn next to Cali and was not adjacent to the gulf of Mexico.  those men there had to move to be loaded on a transport.  In 1942, its adjacent and now you can immediately bring those 2 men with you on turn 1.

These are major when considering USA Strategies for attack and defense.  In revised I used to park some bombers and planes in Western Canada… from there the bombers could reach SZ 13 or SZ 60 and threaten the Japanese coast and the entrance to the Mediterranean… also landed Fighters on eastern canada, from there they could attack SZ 63 and the SZ’s on the western coast or could fly to Britain if needed fast.

Personally i prefer 1942 Map… if only it was bigger and clearer boarders

The maps you guys provided on here are very nice.  However, I haven’t been able to find one with starting units placed at all.  It would be a nice reference when discussing strategy.  I’ve only played this version a few times so far so I don’t have starting units memorized or anything.

Has anyone seen a map with starting units placed on it (at least listed)?  or pictures/lists of the starting placement cards?
