Quick Question

China needs to legitimize their hold over these fake island bases theyve conjured up. Every time they challenge us or some other power over them, and we back down, it makes their foot-hold a little more legit.

Aircraft movement is only counted when an aircraft crosses a map border:

Territory to Territory
Seazone to Seazone
Seazone to Territory
Seazone to Island

It’s one move to the adjacent seazone from a carrier seazone, but there is no movement point for “taking off”.  You may consider your planes as already/always in the air on your turn or an enemies turn (but not in the air on an allies turn - that’s when they’re cargo).

If you are engaging in combat in the sea zone and the coastal territory (with the SZ the only access point to the territory), why wouldn’t you just bring the transport along with the naval attack to assist in capturing the territory?

If the blocking ship was not on the coast (one sz out), you could kill him in combat and move transports in during non combat to off load them onto the  coastal tt you just took. Assuming that you indeed did take the coastal tt by other means.

So let me get this straight, in sea battles, you can kill an enemy blocker ship (destroyer) in the combat phase and move your fleet past that SZ into the next SZ in the non-combat phase assuming that none of your fleet is engaging in a combat move. Yes that is what I was referring to. You can kill the enemies ships in combat (using just a few ships or planes even). Then in noncombat move into the cleared sz (1st move) with your ships that where not involved in the battle. Then (2nd move) to the coast to off load your transports on to the coastal tt you also took during combat. Of coarse the 2nd sz could not be hostel. You can also do this to join two of you fleets together. It doesn’t come up to often, but in P40 it could be useful to both the allies or Japan (especially when you consider NB).

Nevermind - the answer is on pg. 16.  Looks like attacking air units can either be chosen to defend against the scramble (i.e. participate in the sea battle), or can ignore the scramble and assist in the amphib assault - but cannot do both.

If you destroy 12 IPCs as Japan the US is down to 38 or so. If Japan keeps up with the US Navy builds it seems like that would keep the Japanese on a pretty even playing field with the US.

When playing our latest game of AAP40 we came up with following situation:
The US attacked SZ surrounding Japan and he brought in 2 fighters (came from GUAM) which had one point of movement left for landing during NCM.

From older versions of A&A i know that those fighters can land on CV which can be moved during ncm in order to allow those fighters to land.

But when i read through the rulebook from AAP40 it states that the fighters must do their ncm before all other ncm is executed. Did i just got it wrong or has this rule been changed?

That rule is specifically for stranded defending air units. Stranded planes are those whose carrier was sunk or damaged, or launched to intercept strategic bombing/scrambled from an airbase to defend an adjacent seazone and the territory, in the last 2 cases they can’t land anymore on their territories/islands because they were captured by the enemy. In those 3 situations the defending player needs to land the planes before the attacking player conducts NCM movement (or lose them if they can’t reach a friendly landing area moving 1 space).

Since your opponent was attacking he doesn’t have to follow this rule. If you had scrambled planes from Japan’s airbase to participate on the sea battle AND if he had made a successful amphibious attack on Japan then the rule would have applied to you, as the defending player.
