When and where was your first game?

Hello all,
at first sorry for my english, because I am from Czech republic. I have problem with my Axis and Allies game. I have played about 65 rounds now and in this time game typing error message something as “LOG file is full” and is impossible to continue with playing game. If I choose Load Game and click on saved game, the game starts as New game (on start). Folder with save games (Autosave and my 1 save) has about 50 MB. Thanky you for help !! thank you very much.

I’m not too familiar with it but I think it is pretty good and can be played with the CD.

Well what would you suppose I do with my Indian infantry and fighter? Should I attack Burma with it? Infantry and fighters both defend better. And why not strafe WE? Two fighters against two infantry will win with one fighter gone, and the US can land two infantry and fighter to defend and your bomber goes to the UK. Your Rhodesian infantrywould also attack alongside your Syria-Iraq infantry. And Germany wouldn’t be able to build in Karelia in G2, because Russia would counterattack with four inf, four tanks, and a fighter. And if you would win every time as Axis, the how come I play as Allies and always win?

Several options:

1)  Kwangbang - take Man on R1 and attack Kwang on UK 1 with 2 inf, 1 ftr
2)  Send EGy forces and Ind forces to Per for and army of 4 inf, 1 arm (land ftr wherever)
3)  Counter Egy if germany took on rd 1 you can counter with 3 inf, 1 ftr, 1 bom
4)  Reinforce Ken/Rho with the 2 inf.
5)  Reinforce Sin with the 2 inf

Do not underestemat a tactical retreat in Asia (for the Allies).  This is often how you will need to play to win once you start introducing bids.

Don’t consider attacking WE rd 3 or later.

Round 1 (allies) - buy set up units (ie AC for UK, and trns for UK/US)
Round 2 - land in afr (buy more trans)
Round 3 - go to Fin
Round 4 - take WE (or continue to ship to Fin then move to Kar)
Round 5 - repeat rd 4, etc.

I prefer just threatening (bluffing at) WE and continuing to send troops to Fin and Kar so you can do a 1-2-3 punch on EE (or reinforce Mos if necessary)

The board game is clearly the best for fun and general entertainment. Of course, you have to have ready made people :smile: to play with.

The CD is a great option if you don’t have a play group, or if you wish to expand your horizons. It is also the best way to learn quickly, as you can play in real time against many different people…and you can always get a game, regardless of time zone etc. Simply login to the zone.com, make your way to the A&A section and enter the W@W room. You can get a game there pretty much anytime…day or night.

I agree with those who say that the CD AI is crap…it is. Totally useless IMO. But, you never need to play it…as a human is always available.

Regarding bugs…there are some. Many people don’t realize that patch 1.3.3 fixes most of them. The rest of the bugs have fairly easy and common workarounds. There is no impediment whatsoever to playing the game over the internet against a live opponent and for the most part it is very smooth and very similar in look and feel to the boardgame.

Regarding clubs…there are many, for both the CD version and also Play By Email (PBEM). For CD check out spring1942.org or Balance-of-Power.net For PBEM check out AAMC.net All of these orgs are free to join.

Regarding club play…you will find it is a very dynamic community. Many friendships are formed on-line. Real time on-line chat on the zone.com provides a forum for chatting about anything, or just hanging out. I wouldn’t suggest these are a substitute for in-person friends, but you can derive a lot from these communities, and they go far beyond nameless and faceless game playing. Face to face tournies are also often organized locally, regionally through these clubs. As well, they are another great way to meet people in your city who enjoy the game.

If you cannot find the CD, simply visit the sites of Spring or BOP and request help. Chances are someone will point you in the right direction or even ‘burn’ you a copy of the CD. It has also been found at times through sharing engines like Gnotella etc where you can down load the entire disk…provided you have high speed access.
