Question on placing newly purchased Air/Naval Bases

No.  Air units take off from a carrier before it moves and land after it moves, so they always move independently of each other.

That territory is considered full-friendly after you captured it during your turn.

So now that its after your turn, its defiantly friendly to the point where you can land planes there.

You can’t trigger war or make someone else trigger war. War is declared at the start of your movement phase.

If the UK and Japan aren’t at war, the UK is free to move unescorted transports through sea zones containing Japanese subs.

Yes, Air and ground units can kill each other.  You have to understand that an Infantry unit contains infantry and all the support units that go with it.  Some of the support units will include AA units.  Axis and Allies is set up to be a big picture view of the war, not as much detail as you might imagine.  I can understand why it becomes confusing when we have artillery, armor and infantry represented seperately.  In earlier games, we didn’t have arty and it was understood they were part of the other manuver units.

love it, we have taken to writing “F” on the back of the national marker chips and making groups of planes or fighters off the board so we can move 12 ships with one fingertip.

I agree with a J3 attack at this point. And yes, I also believe that there will likely be no ‘Pearl Harbor’ attack on the US.

The Carolines are an ideal spot to stage the IJN. I like to have the bulk of the fleet there and another group off the coast of China to support that efforts against the Brit holdings in the DEI and Kwangtung. Also, staging at Truk pretty much cuts the US off from doing anything useful to help the Brits for the first few turns as well as threatens the Aussies enough to force them to build ground troops for defense.

Given that the US will have spent only 39 or so IPCs by the time of the Japanese DoW it’s impossible for them to have anything to withstand the full weight of the IJN at Truk. That means that if they want to survive the will likely have to be back at the West Coast or someplace else out of the way. That adds another turn or so to the timeline before the US can intervene effectively to help relieve pressure in China/India.
