News!! Progress is coming along well, but still needs a lot of work over these few months.
My first beta setup and rules should be out early November or late October. I’m still working on balancing the setup but also balancing on also trying to be historical accurate. I made Italy a bit to powerful. I’m still working on rules and modifying. When my first beta version is out I will need playtesters so if anyone is willing I would appreciate. I will be play testing on my own but it would be helpful to hear other’s ideas.

So, as you can see, I’ve been threatening to do this for a while, and the YouTube algorithm recently bit me with the RISK bug again.

Sometime in the coming weeks, I’m going to do a writeup on this topic – an East & West mod, for RISK. Way back in the day, when I was first playing RISK (and E&W, for that matter) my friends owned the original, Parker Brothers-style version of the game. When I decided to pick up a copy to own for myself (probably around… 2010?) the “Reinvention” version of RISK is the one I ended up purchasing.

I still have some documentation of the rules for both the “classic” RISK and the “Reinvention” versions of the E&W mod, but I’m going to focus on the latter, since I think the additions of cities and capitols actually help with a lot of the mechanics/balance.

From my experience, this version of RISK actually makes for a really great marriage between the very specific cold war flavour of E&W, but with the speed and abstraction that are really RISK’s great strengths. Since it’s still a 3v1 scenario, there are some changes to the usual RISK formula, but it all still feels familiar.

Anyways, stay tuned for that to show up in this thread, sometime later this month.

I want to say that this game is simply for alternate future and for entertainment. I do not want to offend anybody, nor do I support the Islamic State. This game is fictional and I hope you enjoy.

Basic Rules: Using one of the 4 Powers; ISIS, The Iraq/ Syrian forces, The U.S.A., and The Republic of Turkey. Each power has originally controlled territories. Each Territory has IPCs, and with those IPCs you can buy units (see What are IPCs?). When capturing a territory you earn the IPCs if you hold the territory until the end of the turn. Then using those units you try to strategically win the game. ISIS has no allies except for Palestine being a aligned neutral. ISIS has 2 moves in one turn.
ISIS has big boost of IPCs because of the oil that they have access to. Each territory that has an oil marker that they control at any point in game they can use it to sell some oil for IPCs. You can save these oil points up to convert to IPCs.Each oil point you receive each turn can then be sold for 2 IPCs. If you sell an oil point on a turn, you must use the IPCs that you earned form the oil the same turn. Oil points on the board are located under each territories IPC count. Only ISIS can make money from oil. Only 15 IPCs can be used per 2 turns from oil. If the number of IPCs that you earn from oil goes over 15 IPCs per 2 turns then oil runs out and you cannot sell oil until the number of IPCs you earn (not from oil) cancels out.
ISIS earns 1 infantry each turn due to “Recruiting”.

You do not need to conduct combat to move into allied territory. Allied troops can defend together but not attack together.

@Flashman I know of an amateur made game that you can print out called Orbital Battle by a guy named Mike Fisher. You download it from his own website for free.

It’s one of the space games. His site has over 20 home made strategy games.

It is not an exact gameplay copy of A&A as it uses a hex map and the defending units are only forced to retreat away from an attacker if the dice roll doesn’t roll high enough.

It is played on a solar system map 21 hexes across that has 8 planets on it that move on orbital paths each turn. Also, each planet has it’s own small ground map only 7 hexes across.

Obviously with my Color mapboard being 4’ x 9’ and in two pieces I had planned for my “Gaming Table” to also be in TWO PIECES that could be combined,…or FOLDABLE for transport purposes.

My “A&A Gang” currently are using our 48" x 108" Black & White map mounted on gator-board and laid onto the tops of two tables.

On my version I planned on having a solid 1/2" A/C plywood base that has 1" x 2" lateral and longitudinal wood braces underneath w/furniture grade wood framing around everything and a glass top over the map.  On the bottom I planned to include mounts for detatchable legs to make it versatile.  These are my interests and I’d be interested in your opinions or options for building this for me.  Thanks for your time.

I just wanted to let you know I’d possibly be interested in a two-piece board that could be folded up for transport purposes.  Obviously the glass on top of each mapboard would also be in two pieces.  Let me know of any ideas/opinions you may have on this subject.

My pleasure.  Something else to keep in mind is that there are additional differences between various game levels.  The higher the game level, the more the combat process is abstracted; conversely, when you go all the way down to skirmish level, the combat processes can be so finely detailed that they can involve the effects of individual weapons being fired at individual targets and inflicting specific damage on them.  Another difference is the level of command represented by the player himself.  Way up at the grand strategy level, the player basically has the role of a country’s national command authorities (the top civilian and military leadership running the war).  Down at the skirmish level, the player would probably have the role of a squad or platoon leader.

Maybe we could make some infantry pieces that would hold those gun pieces.
