• I’m trying to put together a 700-1000 pt battle for bastogne game.  I was looking for suggestions for the troop lineup.  I was thinking about having SS panzer IV’s, panzer IV’s, afew brumbars and accouple of tigers coming from the north west.  A SS panzergrenadier force coming from the north east and a mixed infantry force coming from the south.
For the Americans Ill have lots of paratroopers.  I definitely need suggestions for American tanks that were present for the battle and any other infantry that would be appropriate.
A turn limit will be enforced to represent pattons forces breaking through to relieve the defending force resulting in a German loss.  Also I was thinking about giving the Americans a +1 on cover saves in certain hexes to represent them being entrenched.
This is the first large battle Ive attempted for AAM so tell me what you think and give me suggestions if you can think of any.
Depending on how this game goes I may try and do an epic battle of the bulge campaign.

You’ve got to get some King Tigers in there.  The bulge was famous for the use of King Tigers, I tink they only used 80 or so durring the battle, but the allies swore there were hundreds.

As for the allies, a huge factor in the defence of Bastogne was mobile artillery.  Id go with a mix of Shermans for Armor probably about 1/4 of what germany gets.  But something like M7 Priests combined with spotters, would be ideal for the artillery.

Unfortunately no actual pics of the game, but it has the OOB and notes on it.

  • The successful defense of Bastogne of the 101 airborne division was due to, as dezrtfish  said, mobile artillery.  So you should take in several priests with spotters to simulate that.

Another reason why it was successfully defended was the German inability to mount a combined offensive from every direction into Bastogne.  This as you might know, was a great advantage for the 101st airborne division, for they had great communications, thus they were able to move quickly to the point of attack and defend.  I don’t know how you would be able to put that into the game, but its just a thought.
