A sea battle where the defender has a carrier and 2 planes. Can the defender choose to lose the carrier, and then land any surviving planes on either a friendly island in the sea zone or an adjacent friendly territory?

Answering my own question. Yes they can. They can move 1 space to a safe landing spot.
