  • I declared war on Anzac and UK, and stayed away from US and France… how are you able to attack me on US3?

    Sorry, plated for may years, many many games, and I’m confused… what did I miss? The game is over based on this oversight, I guess.


  • I easily could have left a destroyer blocker… wtf did I miss? I’m pretty disappointed if I lose on a rule. US can’t declare war until PU collect phase of US3… please fill me in.

    I’m totally cool with a do over of the Japan turn. I play for fun first, and don’t like losing or winning on technicalities especially so early in the game.

    Go ahead and re-do Japan and we’ll forget this ever happened.

  • Well. first I’m embarrassed that I got so upset, and cussed on this site  :-)  I’ve actually spent the past decade of my professional life training people how to be nice to people - ironic, huh?

    My unhappiness was 95% me, 5% the game platform, and 0% you. For reasons unknown, through years of playing, I struggle with the Pacific DOW rules. A good friend of mine who lives nearby (Infrastructure from this site) gently reminds me in face to face games every time I screw up the Japanese DOW. So this is a long standing problem of mine. My strong reaction was frustration with myself.

    The game platform didn’t help. After I declared war on Anzac and UK, I mistakenly attacked a US destroyer you were using to block Australia, because I couldn’t tell the color difference. It never ended up allowing me to roll it, and then when I realized it was a US destroyer, it made sense to me that I could pass through it… we weren’t yet at war! Or so I thought… so I find it strange that the US isn’t immediately at war in the moment of a DOW on the other powers… but again, that’s where I remain perennially confused. I need the rules explained to me like a five year old  :roll:

    Not that this is needed, but in my defense, you can see the following… I didn’t attack French Indo China, or the Philippines, or leave a destroyer blocker, or leave any land units on Japan. It all adds up once you know I’m rules-challenged.

    I appreciate your offer to play Japan over, but I’ll politely refuse. The only way I’ll ever learn is to take my lumps in a league game against a good opponent, rather than be let off the hook again. And, in the back of my mind, no matter how well this game may or may not have gone for me, I would always know that I caught a break. Let’s call this a victory for you, record it on the league site, and start over from scratch - you up for another, same nations, same bid, etc?

    And thanks for being so forgiving about it - I really appreciate the offer you made.

    Definitely up for another game!

    Not to worry, I knew the frustration was not directed my way. The rule I always mess up is attacking fringe territories bordering Mongolia with Russian troops, negating the Mongolia pact - usually realize it a couple of rounds later when Japan is trudging across the northern territories, gobbling up free IPCs along the way

    I’ll keep the same placement / bid etc.


  • Cool - I’ll set it up and keep everything as is…

    And I realize we probably should have at least rolled the dice in this game… a slim chance Japan survived…  8-)  But luck like that would be just as bad, in some ways. I don’t love huge dice swings - they often take away the strategic element of the game and make it more like Risk.

    I don’t remember who posts the results to the league site… winner or loser of the match?
