I’m not sure who wants to be a league champion so badly. I’m the 2-time league champion and no-one has thrown a single flower garland at my feet or put laurels on my head.
Of course, this year when someone other than me finally wins it :mrgreen: who knows what kind of unending praise and adulation and gifts and bounty and adoration and worship they may receive, since I wouldn’t be blessing myself :-D

Brackets of 8 will be formed over the remainder of December so that round 1 games may commence as early as 1/1/17
But to participate, you MUST sign up, EVEN IF you qualify for the top 8 official league playoff to be named league champion, because I am not going to assume participation by everyone eligible.
ALL PLAYERS who would like to play in a fun and competitive playoff (same as the past couple years - see the tabs in the rankings spreadsheet) who have completed FOUR or more games as of 12/31 are ELIGIBLE
Only the top 8 bracket, playing for LEAGUE CHAMPION, requires EIGHT completed games. So if you’re JuanSpain or Nerquen, you can participate in a playoff but not the main one (8 game requirement)
This year, to sign up, you need to send ME a PM and I will add you to the signup list on the ranking spreadsheet (separate tab)
That way there’s no hanky panky with anyone deleting anyone’s name, or adding someone’s name without their knowledge -

Is the internal triple a dice server erratic? I’ve been playing local games with a buddy and the internal dice roller seems totally crazy, favoring one side or the other constantly.

No it’s single elimination, good grief it would take years at best of 3

If you are not hitting the dice server through a PBEM game (or through the Play Online function), then the dice are not in any way truly randomized other than by your own PC clock, which as we know can be quite “sticky” (remember the original CD games? lol). It is the dice server itself that is using as random of dice as possible. That is my understanding of TripleA.

Ok, thanks, make sense. The internal dice roller does seem quite erratic, rolling hits for one side but none for the other in many battles, much more than the MARTI.

No principal objection to playoffs of 4, but its certainly more motivating to have 8 spots. mixes ih up a bit, otherwise very likely we have the same players every year. true though that the eventual winner is among those 4, most likely.
I am against restricting the 72 hours, and against punishing the occasional 4 or 5 days for a turn, but definitly for making it impossible to have week(s) long waits.

Can 2017 league games be started yet? Ones started now aren’t likely to finish this year.

I just wanted to say that I am in agreement with Gamerman’s suggestions for the 2017 playoffs. Getting through 3 rounds does take an inordinately long time, and I like the idea of picking the groups of 4 based on play speed and such.

What if a game with 16L in the subject finishes in 2017. Does it then count for the 2017 year? If so, why not just drop the 16L except for games started in one year to be counted in the next.

Yes it goes by when it is finished despite the 16L in the name, so 16L in the subject will be ignored - games finished/reported in 2017 will be counted in 2017
The year and the L has been done since before I came along. The L was probably to make it clear that it was in fact a league game, but since all league games are grouped by being its own child board, it’s probably unnecessary. I mean, there shouldn’t be any non-league games on the league boards anyway

One other suggestion I have, I notice a few players near the top of the league with only a couple of games. I suggest that the PPG have one additional game added to the denomonitor.
E.g. rgp44 with 4 games and 27 points would have a modified ppg of 27/5 = 5.4
Adam514 with 272 points from 43 games would have a modified ppg of 272/44 = 6.18That way you get rid of a disincentive to play more if you do well in a few early games.

Well, PPG means points per game, which means points per game
Before this year, I waited until 4 games were complete before you got a ranking, but then because of complaints I reduced it to 2
We all know who the top players really are, and who is over-rated just because they’ve only played a few games. If they’re avoiding more games to keep an artificially high ranking, that’s fine - that’s up to them
The 8 game minimum for entering the league playoff keeps out over-rated players, and if an over-rated one gets into the playoff somehow, he won’t be able to win 3 straight games against the best, so it’s not like the PPG calculation can really be exploited to make someone look really great when they’re not :-)
