This huge planet gets within 1.4 million miles of its sun. Our moon is about 235,000 miles, so figure just 5.5 times the distance of earth to moon, but the tidal bulge of each object should bring it closer not to mention the heat of the star.

I just want the programs to stop. We still have the Tennessee Valley Authority to bring electricity to people in Tennessee and that’s been around for what, 60-70, 80 years??? In 80 years you can’t string power lines and you’re the big, bad Federal Government of the greatest and most powerful nation on the planet?

Top this off with wasted spending in retirement accounts which do not even keep up with inflation, resulting in people LOSING money in the program, and having an open safe to any government spending the government wants.

Then, you want to tell me you want to create a universal health care plan? Let’s forget how big of a failure such plans have been proven to be everywhere they are tried. You cannot even handle running POWER LINES to 1/50th of your nation!!! Imagine how bad that track record would be for life saving medical treatment! 1 in 50 will DIE.

No, the only responsible thing to do would be to shut down this experiment in socialism and return to free market capitalism.

Another chap mentioned the escape velocity of atmoshpere in low gravity.
I ask you how do you explain Titan a moon which holds a decent atmosphere and oceans of Methane and slow moving tidal waves et al? by your idea it would have lost everything and become like our moon.

Titan’s atmosphere consists of heavier molecules such as ethane. As these molecules are heavier, it is much less likely that they will attain escape velocity. Additionally, Titan is much, much colder than the earth and this also make it less likely that these molecules will attain escape velocity. Finally, Titan itself seems to consist of these molecules and any atmosphere that does bleed off will get replenished.

This has nothing to do with Valerie Plame and Karl Rove. The Dems want answers for why we were misled into going to War with Iraq.

Reminds me of the “Spot” act introduced into the House by Abraham Lincoln.

Question is, will President Bush claim executive privelage if this move actually results in a serious investigation.

This isn’t posturing. It’s a serious move by a lot of Senators on both sides of the isle (The Dems don’t have enough votes to call a motion of secrecy without Republican support).

Not only that, but we won’t hear about what goes on. Since 1830, the Senate has only gone secret 3 times. All three were concerning highly sensitive cold-war era paramilitary interventions.

This is serious stuff.

I think that this could be a bombshell, or a buch of crap. Closed sessions are a good thing. Sorry folks, national security takes presidence over the national enquires “need to know”. If they have proof that they don’t want to reveal for national security, hats off… a good move and not at all politicaly motivated. Mcarthy did not betray this country by telling ppl how he got his info, and that is noble (I bet I get a bunch of people down my throat for that one).

If it is a political stunt, than it is an act of a desperate entity that is about to die.

The gov’t seems to be spending tons of money these days. Why not take some of the money from the Mars mission or Yucca Mtn?

I have doubts about the safety of Yucca Mtn. Using our soldiers to guard that stuff would make it too expensive for them.

I actually think it’s cheaper for them to stick it under Yucca Mtn. then to send it into space, esp. given the near-certainty of one of the shuttles blowing up as it leaves.
