@black_elk said in Working on a New Map 40/41: Seeking Suggestions:
perhaps with some map making type tutorials in the same way that Pact of Steel 2 taught how to create an xml and such
:+1:
yeah ok 3 units max for Gibraltar, Wake, Midway, Caroline and the new Malta
whats abattlemap?
OK the new map for phase 3 is basically done. I added finland at 2 ipc and norway is at 1 ipc, 2 pacific islands got 1 ipc each ( caroline/ solomons)
Australia is 2 territories 1 ipc each… added all new VC cities…
one problem the japanese capital of Manchuria ( manchukuo is Hsinking and not Changchun… you may need to change the name on the file for the draft.
added all neutral ipc values and changed all neutrals to white color.
Spain and her colony are a light brown … so if you attack rio de oro you are attacking spain as well.
anything else?
ok changing to “Hsinking” for Manchuria
actually no! I don’t think Spain should be light brown just to show Spain / Rio De Oro combo
this is a tiny thing and not worth introducing a different color
just make a small note to remain players
(like “U.S. Supported…” and “Free French…” message)
email me both the latest phase 2 and phase 3 maps plz
I wanna see other details like Turkey/Balkans and Black Sea
ok will do. But ill let the spain color thing remain until i can change it tommorow
ok I received your email
*Himalaya is “Impassible” but Sahara isn’t
*remove black arrow and have 1cm to the west of “black sea canal” white color
-shows you hold Turkey to move into Black Sea, not Turkey+Balkans
-like reason against new color for Spain/Rio De Oro, don’t wanna introduce things (black arrow)
-shows passablity between Balkans/Turkey like the rest of the map Panama/Venezuela
*Denmark strait is still part of Western Europe instead of Germany (or have you changed your mind?)
*probably a straight line for Eastern/Western Australia division
*its “Sydney” (I am from Sydney hehe), “Sidney” is a Canadian town….also I wonder should Australian VC be Sydney or Canberra…
oh and
*I opened the .ps file in Adobe Reader and some VC have orange box and some doesn’t
I can see you are having a hard time keeping the versions in sync (where appropriate). :-D
both maps:
*change “Sidney” to “Sydney”…check location…
*Sahara not “impassble”, only Himalaya is
*Sahara, Saudi Arbia -> add “(Desert)”
*Greenland, Alaska, Soviet Far East -> add “(Snowy)”
*Southern Europe, Turkey, Mongolia, Persia, Afghanistan -> add “(Mountainous)”
*Rio De Oro -> add small print “Spainish forces” like “US Supported Brazilian Forces”
*change Germany border so it includes Denmark strait (Strait Interdiction rule)
phase 2 map:
*Chicago, Archangel: has BOTH orange and brown boxes, remove one
*missing Neutral income number (phase 3 has it)
*missing Black Sea canal (phase 3 has it)
phase 3 map:
*missing Spain “color roll back”
*Black Sea canal’s “black arrow” might imply one way…personally I think the red stands out enough so we can do without the arrow
everything fixed
except one last thing
you haven’t redrawn border of Germany to include Denmark (for strait interdiction)
and you’ve made it into a canal instead between Sweden and Western Europe?
I placed the 2 red lines to illustrate the straigt. what exactly is needed and where?
I think you should remove it
double red line means canal
what I hoped is to re-adjust the border between German and Western Europe
so Denmark becomes part of Germany rather than Western Europe (during strait interdiction discuss you wanted the ability to belong to Germany)
Oresund <–-------
Strait of Gibraltar
English Channel
ok now i know exactly what you mean. ill change it on both maps
I received another map from you today. Its phase 3 map.
The Oresund still looks the same…
And I can’t find any changes.
I sent you the wrong map. I resent both of the maps that are correct.
great now thats done too
I am gonna see about printing costs
how are you doing yours?
span across A4/A3/A2 paper and then mount on cardboard ?
ok I was able to split the map into A3/A4 sizes
I am going to print them and get hard/thick sheet protectors/sleeve and see how it goes
I would think the best way is to print on a roll up board>
This is a very similiar material that they make chess boards on for club use. Goto a game store and check it out. I have more than a few maps in thei format and its easy and cheap.
Of course the cheap way is 8.5x17 sheets printed out from desktop printer. But thats hardly quality considering all the work we put into this.
oh yeah
but does the roll up material get curly and stuff?
and I am doing A0 so it can be hard to transport in one piece
It works perfect and you just buy a mailing tube to protect it. Get one thats 36" inches.
If you want to go hardcore then clear Lexan sheets 2x2 feet each (4 total) that are placed over the thing.
Then buy miniatures for heavy tanks, half tracks and cruisers and naval fighters
or use 2nd edition for cruisers, heavy bombers, and naval planes.
I just checked out the new player aids.
Hope I am not being too picky…
*action sequence, “combat move” missing
*naval sequence, retreats do not have to go towards your nation
Sugguestions…
*action sequence —> rename back to “turn sequence” for familiarity?
*buttom right space, could be used to put “starting victory cities” back in? and points too
*text a little hard to read, either lighten background it to a watermark or tone the background to the nations color
(particularly with UK and Italy, the black and white in the blackground is making it hard to read the black text)
IL, Could you also mail me the player aids? (after adjustments) Thanks!
they are on BGG. on PDF. BGG= board game geek.com
