At least it wasn’t because of some infighting. Sounds like he will still be around.

STAR TREK: DISCOVERY Names First Official Cast Members
By TrekCore Staff - November 29, 2016After a week of hot rumors about the casting for STAR TREK: DISCOVERY, CBS has today officially named the first three names in the new Trek production’s on-screen team.
Noted character actor Doug Jones will be portraying Lieutenant Saru, “a Starfleet science officer, and new alien species to the Star Trek universe.” Jones is well known for his work under prosthetic makeup – a natural for Trek – from such films as Pan’s Labyrinth and the Hellboy series, along with the recent Falling Skies television series.
As previously reported, Michelle Yeoh has in fact beamed aboard of captain of the starship Shenzhou, but her character’s name is Captain Georgiou, not ‘Han Bo’ as rumored in the trades. Yeoh will portray the first on-screen Asian female captain of a Federation vessel.
Finally, Anthony Rapp – one of the original cast members of RENT on Broadway – will take on the role of Lt. Stamets, science officer and astromycologist (“fungus expert”) aboard the Discovery. This casting choice continues Trek’s longstanding tradition of including well-versed stage actors in its ensembles.

Then again, perhaps not:

Bryan Fuller: “I’m Not Involved” in DISCOVERY ProductionHaha. Saw that to.
I don’t get it.
I just hope the show is good.

Haha. Saw that to.
I don’t get it.Yes, it’s difficult to know exactly what’s behind all this, but from what little can be gathered from Bryan Fuller’s statement it sounds like this may have been a case of a “Do you want it fast or do you want it good?” disagreement between CBS and Fuller. The previously-announced decision to give the show launch a four-month extension from January to May may have been meant to address this concern, but it would seem that this wasn’t enough.

True. It seems like his other ventures and perfectionist nature were delaying what he could offer to Star Trek. CBS probably wanted someone who could focus almost entirely on the show.

thx for the updating!

No idea; I don’t know any more than what TrekCore has posted so far. Note, however, that some of the casting information released so far might not be for the series as a whole; some of it seems to pertain to the regular crew of the titular ship, but some of the characters and actors might only apply to the pilot episode, or perhaps might only be semi-regulars on the series. I suspect that the Klingons aren’t crew members of Discovery, since as far as I know Worf was established on TNG as the first Klingon ever to serve in Starfleet…and TNG is set a couple of centuries after DIS.

Sonequa Martin-Green to Lead STAR TREK: DISCOVERYInteresting.

Discovery runs its course, but what I would really love to hear is progress with Axanar. Just read about the latest legal battles, I hope they get over it soon.
-
Not really all that much in the video.
However the write-up states that Discovery takes place 10 yrs before TNG. Which is very odd because I had been operating on pre-TOS for some time and I found out why: http://trekcore.com/blog/2016/08/bryan-fuller-reveals-long-awaited-star-trek-discovery-details/
I linked to this article a few pages back, which appears to officially confirm 10 yrs pre-TOS.
The author of the gamesradar article is a hack. Only conclusion.

CBS has made yet two more casting announcements today for 2017’s Star Trek: Discovery.
British actor Jason Isaacs, best known to genre fans as the evil Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, is “Captain Lorca” – commanding officer of the starship Discovery.
In addition, relative newcomer Mary Wiseman joins the series as “Tilly,” a Starfleet Academy cadet in her final year of schooling, assigned for field studies aboard the Discovery.

That’s awesome. Jason Isaacs is great.

The video above is mostly unsubstantiated rumors, but it fits the timeline of events for this show. It also fits with a wider theme of studio meddling in productions, for the worse.
Hard to know what is true, but it’s worth ten minutes if you are following Trek. Sidebar: I didn’t know they had again postponed the show to late summer/early fall release. Or I glossed over that.

so there has been an Axanar settlement. The new fan-film guidelines dont sound promising…
OC, fan fiction has to be balanced with copyright somehow, but 15 minutes…I wonder what special deal Star Trek Continues has. -
what you guys make of the Discovery trailer?
Also, I read they bring Harry Mudd back to the show.Nice, I like all the connection stuff, that was great on Enterprise, too. Hope there is more of that, 10 years is not that long a time.
-
Well I certainly need to see more. I didn’t like the look and lighting of the bridge of the other ship but hopefully that’s a minor quibble.
-
10 years isn’t enough time.
Heard the show will only be available on CBS’s streaming service which requires a subscription though. IMHO, it needs to be on broadcast TV. But that’s just me.
Still, excited to see a reboot.
