@The_Good_Captain The rule applies in all sea battles where there are sea units allied to the attacker present, regardless of the type(s) of defending German sea units. The rule mentions only German subs because the author failed to take into account the possibility that the situation could also exist with German surface units if they were mobilized in a hostile sea zone. This oversight was corrected in the Axis & Allies Pacific Rulebook.

I wanted something to ask about SBR’s.Which units participate in SBR’s? My friend claims that he can defend with all units on his territory and
that I can only attack with bombers and fighters because it is not specified in the rules that he cannot do so. -
I don’t know the exact rules but on an SBR FTRs in the target territory may be sent up to engage the enemy BOMs and escort FTRs. Sending up interceptors is optional. If you do not do so only the AA guns that are in the target territory defend.
No other units in the target territory participate in the SBR. AA and FTRs if you choose.
