Yeah, it’s a neat little trick. You don’t want to have to do it, cause that means you lost a capital :-D , but it can be important to some end games.
I think the common scenarios are if Russia falls, UK or US liberate Kar or Cauc and then are able to use the factories there. Or in this case Japan can gain income from Europe. You will get income (for US/UK) for any Russian territory you now claim, provided you take it from Japan. You will not get Kar income or the ability to use that factory since it is still “Russian”. Japan would need to take it first. That is why I waited to take Lib with Japan or move into Ukr/Wrus. At that point it seemed clear Berlin would fall and waiting a turn so Japan can get the income instead of it being a dead territory (like Per) was the better play.
Also as soon as the Capital gets liberated all territories revert to the original owner. So If I were to take back Berlin, Europe would go back to Germany or if you took Arch then Moscow, Arch goes back to Russia.
There are some real weird games you can have, but the timing has to be right like our game where the Capitals fall really close to each other. I’d say within a round or 2 of each other.
I’ve only had a couple of games like this, a few in Revised and a couple in AA50.
