You can edit the sub back to sz 7 if you wish. One of my uboats hit, so I took the first casualty on your russian sub, so your battleship could get better odds on a taking out a fighter if one of mine missed on D. Its the order of loss I usually choose in that battle. But the sub can submerge.
If your prefer to submerge, would you like do the same if I attack pearl with Japan?
Feel free to make the red sub edit before you play on. The battleship was destroyed by two hits from the air anyway in the first round of combat so it wouldn’t change the result, but I only attacked with 2 fighters and the subs (so I tried to give you better odds in the first round of combat defense). In the future if subs want to dive just let me know, or if you forget a non combat move and want to edit something minor that doesn’t effect the combat phase just go for it. I think its a casual tournament.

Here is a save with the Red October sub, returned to sz 7.
Apologies for the order of loss confusion. I was eager to play so I just went with my own default OOL in sz7. Had the sub dived I’d have only needed 2 hits to take out the battleship, as it happened we roll 3. But never know until after the sub Q since the dive/or remain for surprise strike, so in my group people usually kill the sub to try and get another hit off the BB. In this save, the Red October fights on.

Thank you for the information. In terms of the sub, I prefer to make a decision after I see the combat move. Then I can run the calculator and decide whether I should submerge it or not. I think that’s how most players do it here as far as I know. I will the UK turn very soon. Have fun, man.

OK, it just takes a lot longer if I have to wait for your OOL in each exchange. The sz 53 battle is always the same…
Japan= 1 sub, 1 cruiser, 2 fighters, 1 bomber vs
USA= 1 sub, 1 destroyer, 1 carrier, 1 fighter
First hit is always assigned to the Japanese fighter that moved 4 spaces, so the carrier is free to move somewhere else on Non Combat (unless both Japanese fighters survive), in this case the carrier in sz 50 will move either to sz 61 or sz 60. Surviving Japanese aircraft always land at Wake.
Japanese attacker wins 90% if sub remains, 98% if it dives.
I don’t run the calculator in game myself, i have the openings memorized, but you’re welcome to do so if you wish.

Sounds good. Nice hit on Borneo by the way, with good bomber positioning and sneaky sub dive. ;) That one gave me some headaches. Good way to keep my fighters from stacking Kwangtung. I’ll have to leave some to defend the carrier decks now.
This is the pearl opening discussed in the 1942.2 section, by Marine Iguana and others. It usually works. Basically the only scenario under which it can backfire, is if Japan sweeps sz 53 and takes no hit on their Japan fighter. In that case Japan is required to move their carrier to sz 53 (which obviously sucks for them.) But statistically the USA 1 destroyer, 1 carrier, 1 fighter wills core at least 1 hit, which Japan takes on the fighter. Then they don’t have to move their carrier, and can send it to sz 61, or in this case sz 62 to protect the transports I bought
