I have made the official bid to hold a tournament at Gen Con this year. Players will be in 2 groups ( A and B)

under a swiss system you will play at least 3 games over two days. The player or team with the highest total after 3 games will face off. games begin at 11am and run 8 hours with a break in the middle. LHTR in effect.

point system:

Allied win =.75 point
Axis win = 1 point
Draw= .5 points
Lose= 0 points

Not sure about number of VC but it most likely be 9 or 10.

Darn, I think 11am is going to conflict with A&A Miniatures.

The other thing I was thinking of doing was trying to run an A&A: BotB tournament. The game comes out on Nov. 17, the first day of gaming at GenCon SoCal. Would that be too soon for a tournament? I assume that Avalon Hill will be there selling copies of the new game.

Also, at these tournaments are you supposed to bring your own game board? Or are they provided? I assume the games are not provided.

Its BYOG at gen con. Especially the Bulge game. Ill have a copy for the con. I may allow basically any game to be played within the line of axis and allies. So players could decide on original, revised, bulge, d-day, Europe, and pacific.

However, the point structure may have to change with the last 4 games. I do not see any necessary advantage in playing the allies in those games.

It looks like there will be an official Avalon Hill sponsored A&A tournament organized by Greg Smorey.

I was wondering whether 16-32 teams would be possible, so as to have full brackets??

I think we will have no fewer than 30 players… but as many as 45 could show up i would not be surprised. Of course a team must have 2 people so about 8 games running each round would be accurate… 2 bracets w/ 4 teams each or more. On Saturday you will get a bunch of people so you may want the Revised tourney on that day. The fluff tourneys could be on friday and sunday. Thursday will be a bust im afraid… but well give it a try.

I’ll be out at least one of the days playing A&A Minis. But me and a friend of mine should be down for one of the A&A tournies.

I’d like to see an actual “RSVP” list, here or elsewhere, of people who are definately going to go and play AAR.

If few respond, that would be an indication the tournaments in trouble…

WE can only account for ourselves… but you might try Jeff Steins the War game : world war two. He will be there. I know about 4 people going to play AA because they go to gen con every year and play it anyway even w/o a tourney. Plus i told about 6 others at the last con about the touney. I dont know the names… only the faces. The usual suspects allways show up. Thats about 12 guys no matter what… they are cronic to be sure.
