I went when I was really young. I think I mainly visited resorts and amusement parks.

That is going to really suck for those of us that like Bratwurst and Sauerkraut… :-)
Do I have to resort to “Liberty Cabbage” for sauerkraut made outside of Germany?
-
Ah, I see.
I wonder what this is going to do to the whole Shiraz/Syrah debate? Are the French going to claim Syrah is a national wine name (and it is - genetic tests recently confirmed it) and destroy the Shiraz name? That’d be awful…
-
Shiraz has become almost as Aussie as Champaign is French.

Wierd . . .
i just purchased a bottle of Penfold’s “Port” today . . . .
-
Penfolds makes a Port?
Angel is in love with several of their labels, mostly their Shiraz and Merlot.
(I just hope her tastes stay below their “high end” wines :-) ) -
I love me some sake, which is usually referred to as rice wine. However, I believe it’s actually closer to beer.
As for actual wine, port isn’t bad on occasion, and Merlot is my fave. I don’t like sweet wines at all, so most whites are out.

I don’t drink much wine, but when I do, I like Zinfandel (blush wine).

Interesting news for all of you Wine Drinkers (myself included)

2006 Cork Harvest Biggest in Latest Nine-Year Cycle
Monday August 21, 6:22 pm ETBENICIA, CA–(MARKET WIRE)–Aug 21, 2006 – While Europe had another hot summer in 2006, it also had the biggest cork harvest in the last nine years, bringing in a total of 140,000 tons of raw cork, according to Jochen Michalski, president of Cork Supply Group, the nation’s largest provider of premium natural cork wine stoppers.
(full story at link)
Also, I recently was inside one of the few facilities that makes the artificial corks, the NomaCorc facility in Wendell, NC. Rather interesting… But even their premium grade is only rated for 72 months wine storage…
-
I’ve heard that the twist off caps are better for wine than cork - and this coming from a vintner-in-training & other wine connoisseurs.
I always understood that cork was perfect for wine because it allowed it to breathe - anyone else think that someone is trying to pull the wool over our eyes? -
Depends how you store the win, and for how long.
If the bottles are kept upright, then yes, screw top (or synthetic cork) is better. If the bottles are kept properly on their sides, keeping the cork when, then cork is better, and can keep wine safe and happy for decades.
But if cork dries out, there is a huge amount of air exchanged through it, even the best cork, and the wine goes over… quickly.
So, if you buy wine form someplace that has it sitting upright on shelves, buy cheap new wines since older wines may already be turning to vinegar.

I’m a huge fan of Aussie Shiraz. My favorite has to be Wydham Estates Bin 555. Just delicious. :-P

Absolutely Penfolds makes a port/fortified Red. And it’s excellent!

There’s a joke that goes “Having sex with a fat chick is like driving a moped. Lots of fun to ride, but you don’t want your friends to see it”.
That’s my take on Zin. -

I assume you mean White Zin rather than regular Zin.

well yeah - the E&J G stuff that’s like a wine cooler.
-
my wines i buy are cause of the name…… FAt bastard little penguin cool names like that, Merlot is the best followed by pinor noir.
-
The only good thing about fat bastard is the label. The wine is icky, the fake cork is a pain in the arse to get out…although it is cheap.
