Ha, I forgot your German bomber there in Indo.

Game over. You’ll nuke the US fleet.

Interesting game. It was over I think 2/3 rounds back when it was apparent the Axis could basically block any allied move. Like I’ve said this sitting on the butt strategy is very vexing. The bomber strategy is more gimmicky and dicey. While this strategy is really insidious. Maybe a game breaker.

feel free to change your fleet back to carolines. i thought maybe you were just taking a chance, in case the bomber missed and you got lucky with your dd. just redo that noncom

well it’s not really a sitting on the butt strategy, but more like a gradual expansion and continual consolidation. i have a very defensive style as you can see, whereas many players start abandoning japan as soon as the pressure really mounts, and then go all balls into europe, hoping to interfere in a big enough way to allow for a euro VC win (or vice versa, if euro axis is under too much pressure they’ll thrust their units over to aid japan in a pac VC win). still other players like to go at russia really aggressively, conceding much of western europe and norway to the allies in the process.

Nah, game is over. It was over awhile back.  The loss of the Middle East was a turning point along with not hitting Japan when it stumbled. I think opening the neutrals was an error. Anyhow, as I say, this Axis defense strategy is super hard to crack.

Plus you were at the helm of the strategy. You managed to accurately block almost every advance. There was NEVER an opening for the Allies in this game, which makes me wonder if this strat is a game breaker. Sure, I could just be a bad player, but aside from you hitting the UK fleet in the Med, we never engaged in any major battles at all. The game was 90% maneuver and little battles. The Normandy one was already after the turning point IMO.

this was definitely the best i’ve seen you play against me. you were applying pressure every chance you got on all the edges of my empires…japan really struggled but finally got back on its feet. boy what a mistake not putting up a factory in manchuria! you really made me pay for that!

i was really concerned about possibly losing my gains in the middle east while i tried pushing back up against russia to hole them up again…so i decided to stack a huge threat upon india, hoping it’d convince you to either abandon it or call in your tanks to reinforce. while that drew attention onto japan, i felt japan could handle such pressure while germany continued to build up a stronger presence there in the middle east. it really freed germany to push up hard against russia without consequences in the middle east.

“Sitting on the butt” is a reference I think to Waterloo and what Napoleon thought of Wellington’s defense strategy. It’s a compliment.

Interesting, I think the issue there was for UK to try to push you out of the Middle East they would have to move forward, and, again, you could have preempted their move by attack the 14ish tanks and knocking them out before they could attack.  There was never really a chance for the UK to retake the Middle East.

Partly that is an effect of the fact the USSR never had a true offense ability. It’s a real problem with the allies. The USSR can get great defense numbers but not offense. The UK can get offensive but never get a defensive force largely because it is limited to Mmics in that area.

yah, cracking the neutrals open is risky if you don’t completely control spain and turkey. those two are the key countries to control if you’re going that route, and they are huge gateways. losing even one of them can be so costly that it may lead to an unrecoverable situation for the allies, at least in europe. this game your pouring into spain and then spilling over into western europe strategy was awesome…i will have to copy that. at first i didn’t see the sense of buying so many tanks, but then after a while the pressure really mounted. i was so worried that you might be able to even take s.france and hold that as well, leading you ever close to an all out invasion of either france or italy.

THe game before this was still born to the extent I lost Egypt R1!  I should resigned on that one.

Funny how that was what would have happened this game too expect for the LL you gave out.

I seriously question the MARTI server. I know it’s lame to blame the dice roller, but having playing 200ish games on it, it seems to me to be “too random” sometimes.

  • 25 24 22 21 20 19 18 16 15

and to be honest, i think norway was a strategic blunder. i felt you played it brilliantly up until that point. i mean yah you got super lucky in normandy (thankful for the LL re-roll), but really, you left normandy to die with that move. but not just that, you also gave up most of your trannies…once those were gone, it really limited your options. i could’ve also just struck spain instead of normandy, and then dead-zoned it from s.france.

one thing i’d say, while it gave you so much power in the middle east having all those tanks, you probably should’ve bought a few more mechs there instead and invested more in 110 with trannies and land forces. with even a few trannies, berlin suddenly becomes under considerable threat, and germany has to be on guard. i did have a sizable navy to guard against such a threat, but your naval/air power was growing too big for my navy to keep up indefinitely. maybe it could’ve kept up–not sure really–but it wasn’t easy, as your land forces were hard to keep up with as well.
