G40 Gauss_Death (Allies +13) vs oysteilo (Axis)
-
I concede. I did not expect you to take the Baltic States or Belarus. I cannot defend against the Americans coming in through Novgorod AND the British coming in through Caucasus and Greece.
It doesn’t matter how many units I produce.
Japan is in a slow slide against the American fleet.
Frankly, I should have gone against Russia several turns earlier. Either that or built a fleet of submarines and used those as soakers for the aircraft to push the american fleet off of the shores of Europe.
Play again?
I agree that germany has some serious trouble and now USA can produce 9 units in Europe . And yes, there is stuff for Japan to worry about too. It also looks like anzac is able to produce some support for the USA. But Japan is still very strong I think. But conceding is your right and choice! I think this has been a very good and fun game. I think the biggest problem for the axis is italy did nothing in the last 5, 6? rounds. Maybe Germany should have helped here. Maybe you should have gone for Russia earlier, but still I had a bunch of planes sitting in Norway /middle east ready to support. I also think you should have bombed Russia more or less every round . I think you played really well with Japan. Maybe you should have invested a little more to make sure I could not hold any of the money islands for more than a round .I have had at least one of the islands for several rounds now. If you have any feedback for me I am happy for that! And YES I would like to play again . Start bidding or suggest something if you have any specific in mind.
-
And of course you were unlucky in the Moscow battle. I am still trying to figure out how unlucky you were
-
Horribly unlucky. I should have come out of that with 33 units, not 9. If I had come out of it with 33 units you would not have been able to take Novgorod. I would have had fighters and Tbombers in it.
I should have had (average): 1 Fighter, 5 Tbombers, 10 Bombers, and 17 Tanks. This assumes your AAA hit 4 fighters at the start (22/6 = 3.66)
6 Infantry, 2 M.Infantry, 1 Fighter, 5 Tbombers, and 10 Bombers could have easily held Novgorod against 1 M.Infantry, 4 Tanks, 2 S.Bombers and then the 2 M.Infantry+4fighters the british could bring on their turn.On Germany’s next turn the 17 Tanks would have grouped up with 12 Infantry, 3 M.Infantry, and 3 AAA in Rostov. That is enough of a force to hold against your British troops while I build a turn or two.
Japan just needed to hold 6-8 turns while the Germans had a free hand in Europe. That should be doable.

That is the situation as I expected it (more or less) after the battle with Russia.

I totally agree. This is the expected result. I will try to run the battle several times later to see what happens.
-
I am tempted to request a low luck battle. :P
Alright, I bid 20 for allies.
-
19
But we are playing dice, no tech again ?
-
Bid 18 Allies
I leave it to you whether we do dice or not and whether we do tech or not. Despite my frustration at the horrible luck I had in that battle (and thus the game) I am ok with it either way.

Japan is “strong” but not strong enough to hold out while America and Britain rip apart Germany. There is really no way Japan can get the needed VCs. The Allies have an equal or stronger fleet in the pacific.
As for Italy, you are right…but Italy lost a lot early on. It never really recovered. I didn’t know what to do with it after that. If Germany had tried to help Italy it would have cost Germany the battle for Russia.
Once I made the mistake of allowing you to take the money islands I couldn’t stop you from holding them. Japan is only one nation, you can use blockade destroyers to keep me from invading them.
I think the main mistake you made was that you didn’t attack Caucasus with your entire British army. If Germany counter-attacks then Russia grabs all the territory around Moscow and breaks out. Additionally, I would have lost too many units and would be at a disadvantage against Russia.
-
Ok. I prefer dice, no tech, but will play low luck too. Sometimes it is really frustrating with low luck
If we play low luck allies are yours at 18. If dice, I will bid 17 -
I was considering to do Caucasus as you suggested .I was worried you would go south and take out the middle east
