Right now I can still feel the difficulties I and others have pointed out for Germany already:
Japan is definately weakened by the American early focus. That basically makes taking out India early a paper tiger only. If I’d done that for example, I would have lost Carolines->Philippines->DEI already. Not a good trade I think. Anyway, I daresay Japan is not finished yet, but has a challenging task!
So correct me if I’m wrong but I’d say raiding Russia is a must, that is one. Two, Germany must look for creative options against the Wallies. Three, Japan must fight permanent containment ;-).
The allies are far from being out of the game so far. Our game proves to me once more that an allied bid should not exeed 11, maybe 13IPCs. An allied bid should never allow them to kill both the Italian fleet AND Tobruk. At least there should be a huge risk involved.
And how important a little luck in the opening battles is. Don’t get me wrong; you play it well and I am not complaining (heck, Germany is blessed to have all its luftwaffe still alive!), but it’s just a fact that if Germany can keep its BB (like I failed to take out in our first game) and only 1 more sub (happens quite often as well), this is a set back for the alies in many ways (SZ125 being one of them).

So how you think this will end?
I think it will end as predicted: Japan cannot withstand the JF for much longer (as usual) and then it is Germany versus the world. You think DS is strong enough to face those odds? I doubt it. They’ve got the economy against them.
I suggest we play a little longer to see if Germany can make up for the loosing game in the Pacific. But I will be surprised if they can. If it becomes clear they can’t (which I expect), I’d consider the DS myth busted. Another victory for JF over GF, hurray! Same old story as ever: JF is so much easier for the allies compared to GF. Very annoying.
Maybe if Japan is not doing J1. I consider J1 not very good against a USA going to JF. But then again, what JDOW would be…
I personally consider J1 to be slightly superior to J2 even for KJF. Sure, America gets a one round bonus, but they also lose a fighter plane in Philippines that they normally would have been able to keep. The British (Pacific) lose a battleship that normally could escape and would be off the coast of Gibraltar on UK4. I would put it as a ~8 PU bonus to Japan of doing J1 compare to J2 even for KJF by the Allies. It is not necessary a game-changing decision but I’ve never regretted doing it.
You had made some significant mistakes on J1-J3 which is why Japan doesn’t own India right now. If played correctly, there is nothing that the Allies can do to prevent a J4 amphibious invasion of India. That gives a big boost to the Japanese economy and makes the Allies spend even more money in the Pacific to further contain or kill Japan. Almost all of the games that I have played, the Allies chose to do KJF, yet I have only lost once (I forgot that Rome was the capitol of Italy and Germany was the capitol of Germany).
I think that I would have a chance of an Axis victory if we switched sides right now. Don’t consider DS myth-busted yet! If you want to, I could redo J4 and swap control of the powers. I would much prefer this route than continuing playing if you don’t see a good chance for you to win as the Axis. Let me know your preference.

Hmmmm, I know I’m a relative newbie regarding JF stuff, but I know how to J4India. My point is that I deliberately did not go for it (tough decision I admit), because that would position the IJN in the Indian sea J4. With an India scheme I saw the USA + ANZAC going Carolines->Philippines+DEI, also denying Japan their naval set up location at SZ6 all the time. Doesn’t this already mean game over for Japan, even though they control India???
If I’m missing something important, please do tell. How can Japan overcome the above, even though controlling India?
I’d like to continue for a while. When I am 100% sure it’s not going to work, we can switch sides again. If I feel up to another game ;-). Don’t know about you but I can play this game too much in a short time.
If you wish, we can then even start from round 2 or 3 so you can still do that J4India. We then just delete the IC I bought J1 and add another TRS in SZ6 and give Japan an extra 4IPCs.
It is not easy to push back the US navy once your fleet is next to India on J4, but it is possible if Japan plays correctly. We can continue for a while.
