the all-bomber strategy seems virtually unbeatable…i’m at a loss as to what to do against it, to be honest. and i’m not alone i guess, judging from your record in using it and apparently dizzknee too. the bomber stacks are way overpowered, especially for germany given its unique combination of factors that favor the strategy, including a strong starting ground force; high income; even higher income potential; its minimal need for navy; and its great threat projection all across europe, russia, the med, middle east, and any sea zones that are near enough from which to launch an invasion.
some other experienced players had suggested a KJF approach, and so having tried that here, i see it allows for euro axis to get way too big and your bombers are totally free to bomb moscow and even london to oblivion. and anyway, even if i were to actually TAKE tokyo, which is highly unlikely but let’s pretend, what’s to stop you from simply loading up your trannies and, along with your entire air force, going straight for egypt? with russia about to fall here, you can simply do that and it’s game over. so clearly i’m on the wrong track.
i don’t really think there’s an effective counter to this strategy…although i do believe it is possible to beat it, i believe the strategy is probably something like 95 to 99% unbeatable, which to me still leaves us with a broken game. there is therefore exposed here a fundamental problem with the game’s rules, requiring further refinements to be made. i especially feel the SBR is too overpowered, and the intercepting capability is too under-powered. i mean c’mon, fighters dog fight against bombers at an equivalent value of 1?
i know i’m not the best player out there, but first of all, i don’t lose many games, and when i do lose, it’s only with allies and usually after 20+ rounds of play (i’ve never lost an axis game in league or lobby play). against you with this strategy, however, i fall very quickly…it’s actually pitiful LOL
i’m quite curious to have your opinion on this.

To be honest, I’m not really sure, since I’ve never played against it. In my game with Gamerman he’s been super aggressive with the Allies, which has kept the bomber stack size down, despite my having good results on most of the battles, so that might be an effective countermeasure. It’s also kept Italy’s economy fairly small. I feel I’ve misplayed Japan a bit in that game though so it might be something I could adjust for in the future.
I don’t think KJF works for the simple reason that it takes too long. If Japan knows a KJF is in effect, they can just abandon China and focus on tying up the Allied resources in the pacific for as long as possible (long enough for Germany and Italy to win).
As far as rebalancing the game goes, it might just be a case of bidding higher for the Allies to either require Germany to buy more land units or make a KJF feasible. If we’re going to talk rule changes then I would prefer something simple like capping the number of bombers any power can buy per round to 2, or making some limitation on the % of IPC you can have as bombers. Changing AA or SBR rules, etc. risks throwing off the game balance even more.

the idea of bidding even higher to help cope with a specific overpowered strategy seems wrong to me, since i don’t believe the more conventional strategies are nearly as problematic and it’d therefore needlessly affect those ones drastically. it then leaves us with the awkward situation of bidding higher when knowing you’re going to have to deal with this one specific german strategy. idk, i just don’t see it as the fix.
your idea of capping the bombers at a certain percentage of IPC does appeal to me, however. it’s a rule agreement that is sensible and simple to implement in the league. i will definitely push for that with gamer. however, before i do that, i wanna make sure my belief is even further substantiated by some more play testing.
my friend adam514 is a solid allied player and more experienced at this game than myself, and he believes he may have a counter to your strategy. would you kindly play against him to see if his allies would have any chance against it? you can either do it as a league game or just take it to the non-league forum and make it a play testing game. i know you’re pretty busy, so to help with that, i could just resign this one so you’re not feeling the pressure of starting another game. what do you say?

I’ll happily play him as my next league game. We still have the 2nd tier playoff final to play though, which we should probably do first.
It’s up to you whether you want to continue this one or not, I don’t think it’ll go that much longer anyway.
