I have found that in my first few rounds playing germany, I was much to aggressive. Usually I get so burned out pounding Russia, that by the time that I am in striking distance or moscow i am unable to fend off US/UK assaults into WE, SE etc. I agree with the previous posts that suggest a solid INF and FIG anchor. Since you always have the advantage on the defensive, let Russia burn its self out on a what it think is a conservative germany, meanwhile you destroy/delay the US/UK shucks with a combine german fleet on SZ 12, with a FIG stack in WE. Russia will be so tickled pink to get those extra 3-5 IPCs that it my become overly aggressive. Whenever an ally sticks a vulnerable army out, you will be in position to lop it off. All the while Japan weakens Russia, and moves in for the kill. Of course this only works in a KGF came. If Japan gets tied down Germany is living on borrowed time.

I have seen them on ebay in the last few days. Search for “axis and allies japan” to narrow the search to about 20, then look at the seller’s other items to find the rest of what you want. Otherwise you’ll wade through about 1500 to 2000 items. “Revised” may just bring up the entire game.

Strat 1: 2-3 transports in Baltic and move Mediterranean fleet west. Usually only feasible if Germany received bid units in Africa, and/or USSR did not take Ukraine (the extra German fighter’s needed on the attack). Threatens invasion of London. Should not be used if Russian fighters landed in Moscow (Allied response: UK 3 fighters and transport E.Can tank, US transport 2 inf 1 art 1 tank (sacrificing US transports) Russia fighters to London resulting in strong UK defense and immediate threat to Baltic fleet.)

Baltic transports can be used to transport German infantry to Karelia as well as threaten London and reclaim Norway. If a united Allied fleet gets close, the Germans can counter with German air plus fodder German transports. However, this strat is not effective against quick Allied air.

Strat 2: Carrier in Baltic. To prevent UK 2 fighter 1 bomber destroying German fleet straightaway. Carrier gives German fighters added range, allowing German threat to London, as well as allowing German fighters stationed at West Europe and on the carrier to rotate duty when attacking Karelia, West Russia, or other points east.

Carrier protects Baltic fleet until the Baltic fleet suicides against the Allied Atlantic fleet. Carrier is much less inherently useful as attacker or defender; its use to effective extend fighter range is of limited use. A carrier is stronger against Allied air, but continued Allied buildup force the Germans to use more IPCs on navy, or lose their existing navy.

Strat 3: Carrier and transport in Baltic. Threatens London and extendes fighter range. As above, but with so many IPCs in the water, Germany’s attack on Russia is stalled.

Strat 4: Nothing in Baltic. The UK has a lot of targets on UK1: retake of Anglo-Egypt, the Baltic fleet, etc. If Germany builds NOTHING in the Baltic, the UK may either attack Anglo-Egypt with less (good for Germany), or the UK may lose lots of air on a risky attack against the Baltic fleet. Either way, the strategy here is to build infantry and tanks, to press on Russia early; if the UK lets its fighters die, that’s just less force the UK can hit the German ground with later.

Hey guys, I can’t really figure out how to use my med fleet best. I usually use my bid on 2 units for Libya. Then should i still send my med fleet to Egypt to try a take and hold, or should I buy ekstra fleet for the baltic and then send my med fleet west and unite the fleet on G2?
How do you use your med fleet?
do you buy the carrier or transports for the baltic, if you buy any at all?

Those two first listed options pretty much sums it up.

I don’t ever buy carriers for the Med fleet. German fighters in Western Europe combined with the Med fleet prevent early Allied naval invasion of the Mediterranean.

Late game, I sometimes buy transports to shuttle additional infantry from S. Europe to Caucasus.

You can try to pressure Caucasus extra early on if you make a couple of German transports at S. Europe. That is, if Russian fighters land in Moscow on R1, 2-3 Baltic transports is not sufficient threat against UK (since Russian fighters can fly to London). But if Russian fighters land in Moscow on R1, they’re not in position to attack any German transports produced at Southern Europe.

But if you DO produce transports at S. Europe early, remember that they’re not going to do too much. Even with transported infantry, it is very hard to match up to the bulked mass of Rusisan infantry/tanks/fighters/some artillery. It is probably a far safer bet to produce infantry early, march east, then produce transports to unload infantry, and have Jap fighters land in the same territory.

BUT if Russia was very aggressive, or very unlucky, Germany can try to run a tank dash to Moscow game, in which case early transports in the Med are decent. But this should ONLY be tried if a gigantic proportion of the Russian army is destroyed. Otherwise, Germany simply overextends itself.

I think the general consensus is you can pretty easilly cripple the Royal Navy (kill the Gibraltar BB and the Egyptian DST), but killing the whole fleet, while POSSIBLE, does not yield positive net results for Germany. UK can too quickly rebuild (a single AC and they get a defense of 11 with their starting FIGs, and it only costs 16 IPC’s) and the US can too easilly sweep in since the risk from Germany AF is basically nil.

Sink the British DD, then land an infantry and artillery in Anglo-Egypt as well as bringing up the units in Libya. If Russia sends a fighter to Anglo-Egypt on his first turn, then I would suggest sending the bomber from Germany.

edit: or fighter from Balkans or Ukraine.
