all right i’ll admit it i’m cheap, poor college student. but does anyone know were i can find the Expanded rule book for free online? or am i going to have to go out and buy it?

Just be aware they are optional, and not what I’d call generally accepted. Bit as long as you know who you are playing against and they are cool with it then you are fine.

I have two starter packs of War at Sea and 4 or 5 boosters, so I have the rules. I agree that they are fast-playing and pretty bare bones. I have played most of the rule sets that I mentioned, and likely will use the War at Sea ships to play them as well. I might also mount some of the ships from my various Axis and Allies game sets on strips of index card, and use them for additional ships. I am working on a data card for a B-25 Strafer as used in the Battle of the Bismarck Sea. I picked up two sets of the Tamiya 1/700 scale Mitchells to use with them. I will like add them to the Axis and Allies game as well, using them as the US bomber, and the B-17 as a heavy bomber per weapons research rules.

The trick to aircraft is you actually have to practice patience.

Don’t place them if you can’t get a good attack in with them. Take out your opponents AA units with fast attacking forces; units like motorcycles, cavalry, and even some armoured cars were well. Once you’ve elminated them you should have air superiority. The trick is to get them out as fast as you can, because until then you’re opponent has a point advantage on you.

I’ve been toying with the idea of introducing soft cover and hard cover as game concepts for A&AM, and I’m looking for some feedback or ideas (and hopefully others might try it and tell me how it worked for them). Yes, they’re based on gross oversimplifications, but the whole game is based on such, so I don’t see this as a problem.

Soft Cover: Forests - Cover Rolls have a -1 to them, meaning that Soldiers have a 5+ cover save, and vehicles need a 6.

Hard Cover: Towns, Hills - Normal cover rolls as per the rulebook.

Erm. Yea, I’ll explain more in a bit. I have to log offline ASAP. But I see this as being a bit more realistic and tactical without overcomplicating things. I might give the standard infantry of each nation a “foxhole” ability one of these years too, one that allows them to treat soft cover as hard cover if they didn’t move in the movement phase that turn. I dunno yet.

Excellent question. I do not have any historical evidence of widespread tank vs. tank ramming, and I don’t really expect that it went on. I included the rule more for sake of gameplay with non-armored vehicles (jeeps, halftracks, etc.) The rule represents a sort of last ditch option available to a player with nothing left but jeeps who is trying to face down a tank. I’ve people ask to be able to ram on a number of occasions, so I decided to come up with a rule for it. The attack itself is pretty anemic (need 6’s to hit) so I can’t think of why a tank would ever choose to ram another vehicle instead of using it’s short/medium range armor attack roll instead. Now a jeep, on the other hand, really wouldn’t have any other attack against a light tank. With the ram you might be able to damage a tank, but you are certainly going to destroy your jeep trying. Let me know if you end up using the rule and if it works for you or not.

Man… I was totally off in how I was running Superior Armor: I like how it was pointed out that you need to think in terms of hits not damage counters. That really clarified things for me.

Alot.

OK, so maybe now that King Tiger won’t we such a game stopper anymore. W00t.
