    I was close to a heart attack when I scored just 16 instead of the expected 25 hits round 1.
    But the american navy kept 3 hits below average luckily, too.

  • Well, I don’t really see any reason to draw this one out any longer, as I’ve pretty much lost on all fronts :) My allied play wasn’t quite as bad as it has been, but I still haven’t really found a good strategy and made a few costly blunders, while you made none.     The pity is that we could not really learn whether the KFJ from round 2 was working or not. In fact, without losing the carrier and TT early and without losing the Anzac fleet plus the 2 TTs at Caro the situation could have been differently.
    We don’t even know where this game would have been gone if the 30% can opener wouldn’t have worked.

    I really had no clue how long Japan could have held the pressure. Maybe they would have held quite long because they had India and lots of land units or once the US fleet breaks in everything collapses quickly. You still bought yourself lots of time on the European map which kind of forced me to go for economic victory.

    regarding no blunders on my end: Did you realize that you had a 100% shot on rome about round 8?
    I carefully calculated the modified threat on Germany by a US Airbase in Normandy but totally forgot that this threat did count for Rome too. There was a certain price tag on that move but the Italian bank was well filled and 2 air would have been killed, too. I am pretty sure that I as Allies would have made that attack.

    Also thanks a lot for your great sportsmanship. Was a pleasure to play you! I find this very important as games take very long.

  • Yeah, it might have been interesting if the US fleet survived, though I can’t say I had a clear idea of what they were going to do, just wanted to shake things up since they weren’t doing any good in the pacific. Of course, it kind of required me to have remembered to consider the Caucasus units vs. Samara on R11 :)

    I think the Rome thing is probably a good example of my problems playing the Allies - I take things too cautiously and end up losing the economic war. I did consider it, but tricked myself into thinking I could take it slow and safe. Really as the Allies you need to give the Axis opportunities to get bad dice, and I wasn’t doing that by playing so conservatively.

    I’d love a rematch next season, am going to wait to start any new matches until the playoffs start though.
