before I buy the revised edition, I have been wanting to learn more about it. i have already read the rules but i am interested in finding out the initial starting units, where & how are they located at in comparison to the 1996 version?

You should take a look in the Players Help section, theres a sticky post at the top that shows the initial setup for all the axis and allies games, or you could just point and click the big X
