  • was a bit scary when you got 19 hits in the first round  :-o and I kind of screwed up having to ditch a couple planes too


  • Regardless of it not being as big of a swing as it could have been thanks to a good 1st round and you ditching 2 air afterwards, I do believe that’s the nail in the coffin. I’m not quite ready to throw in the towel, but the fat lady is warming her voice.

    I’ve made two big mistakes in this game that good dice can’t overcome.

    1. I built an IC in Egypt and tried to hold there, should’ve gone with my gut and just put it in Persia. I wouldn’t have felt like I needed to hold there and even if you had taken it, I’d have had a force just south of there to keep you from spreading and another force in the ME to keep Italy out of that bonus money. Make no mistake about it, I think Italy won the game for you.

    They neutralized the Brits having a starting fleet and have been making bank for the axis. I should’ve had a force in Africa/ME moving into Russia to help support while dropping other troops into Europe. USA had to come into the atlantic without really denting Japan much. Which leads to mistake #2.

    2. I lost the US fleet. I failed to block a seazone like I’d planned and it hurt me horribly. Just when US needed to keep spending in Europe to try and turn that tide, a whole levee gave way and now there’s nothing in the Pacific to stop the onrushing Japanese. I mean Western US is threatened for God’s sake! I need to build in the Pac, but Europe’s demanding attention. I have one other game where I needed to block with the Aussies and I think I did in that game and that quelled the little voice in my head telling me that the Aussies needed to block.

    No bones about it, you outplayed me. You’ve overcome some bad dice to do it as well. Sure, quite a few of them were unimportant side battles. But the attrition you suffered throughout should’ve (has!) helped me. Keeping the British fleet intact was a boon and keeping some of those islands was really nice as well. But you’ve greatly benefited as well (Egypt!). I made a mistake putting an IC in Egy that early when I hadn’t neutralized the Italian fleet. But that was still a battle you only had less than 1/3 chance in taking. Ah, if only . . . .

    I’ll play this out another couple of rounds or so. But I put my chances probably somewhere less than 10%, if that!
