    Why were only 2, not 3, ANZAC fighters scrambled? This makes a difference.

    There was 0% chance with 2 fighters (which would leave too much of fleet for the remaining ANZAC forces); so it was either go with 3 fighters and have a long shot at winning or at least maximum damage or not scramble at all (but that would have made no sense at all as the fleet would have been massacred with minimal loses to the Japanese fleet. I don’t know how I wrote in 2 fighters; my intent was “scramble fighters.”


  • Shrug you write 2 fighters and I could make a case for leaving a fighter available.  Not scrambling at all would have been a WORSE scenario as you would have been totally wasted while doing even less relative damage.

    If you want I’ll let you trade that fighter for 2 hits, basically 4x 3 rounds or 12 = 2 hits.

    Other than this battle, you hit on basically all but 1 attrition roll that turn.

    Your offer is generous. I compounded my error of blundering into the death zone otherwise known as SZ 54 with a careless clerical error. I suspect that only real hope for the Allies was to scramble three ANZAC fighters and hope that Marti would be kind, either salvaging the transports or at least a pyrrhic victory for the Japanese. Let me see if there is any realistic way to recover from my follies. If not, I would rather move on to a rematch, if you okay with you. Really busy today, so I am not sure I will have a chance to review the situation until tomorrow.
