Hi

If anyone is willing to play me with a first game with TripleA, I am a newbie with the game engine. I am very familiar with A&A Revised as I have been playing A&A for about 20 yrs now.

Any patient takers?

The easiest way is to connect the lobby to find some opponents.

it says

software caused connection abort: socket write error

Maybe try the current pre-release from
https://github.com/triplea-game/triplea/releases

to see if it still happens with newer versions.

The developers reverted back to 2.522294, as it turned out that currently 2.6 versions don’t work properly with the so-called “bot-play” in the “Lobby”.

This does not affect play by forum of course.

In case you play lobby/bot you should use 2.5.22294 to do so.

This is my favorite version of AA50 for tripleA!

It reminds me of those old stanley turner WW2 maps I enjoy or like Time Life from way back in the day, but with some topographical flare to it that I particularly dig. It’s like a classic callback to Iron Blitz, but subtle. I love it! Can’t believe it took me like 5 years to chance on this post hehe.

This Custom Mod should just be the default AA50 version in the tripleA repository as far as I’m concerned. It looks glorious! Love the unit detailing.

Also I was trying it out just now with some of the Iron War units that Frostion made shown below, which were among my favs for WW2 tripleA, and it looked killer that way too! I re-labelled and ported them earlier tonight to have something I could use for G40 units as well and the files totally worked for AA50 despite having like way more tanks than the game could ever use lol. When I found this map and was like oh damn, when did this one come along? 2017 I guess, well I still think it’s rad!!! Super clean map all around.

It would be awesome to see something like this for G40 at some juncture. When I pull up the vanilla AA50 or G40, just doesn’t look nearly as awesome as this Custom Mod map. Style points especially for the little designs in the reliefs. This Custom Mod AA50 is what I really wished the AA50 map might look like back when I initially put the rough baseline together. Lots of nice touches here, it’s got the charm for sure. Well done dude!

That’s not entirely accurate. There is a scenario I can think of in which some shady circumstances can occur - in a particular scenario.

It’s safer to say - Axis and Allies is cheat proof, as long as your dice are done through a server - and you pay attention to the actual game mechanics.

Well I’m mostly comparing it to Battlemap, where it would be easy to add units here or there. If extra units are discovered, there’s no way to tell if it’s cheating or an unintended mistake.

In my experience, it’s the unintentional mistakes that most often mar Battlemap games. Consequently, many players spend alot of time checking maps and moves for accuracy.

With TripleA the above scenarios don’t happen, because you’d have to use edit to add in units that shouldn’t be there. And any edit is clearly visible in the game history.

I wanted to start a forum where we could suggest some new functionality to tripleA to the developers. I know you guys are busy, but I thought it would be nice to give some ideas your users have.

Here are some I had:

If you click on a territory you can set up “options” for it. Some people might have ideas for more, but one option I would like to see is changing the default causulities for PBEM games. It could be “Offensive Mode”: It will take allies that are in the territory as casulties before taking the owner of the territory’s units as causalities. I think this is the way the game is by default. “Defensive Mode” it will take infantry first, artillery…etc. and ignore which country owns the unit. The last units that will be taken are aircraft then. It will keep the defense value of the territory high for as long as possible.

I was wondering if there was a way to store game files online (like google documents) so that people could play without actually having to email game files to each other. I think there could be other advantages to this. You would not need to have all the battle results emailed to you to keep track of battles. There could be a log file that is attached to the file that is stored online.

If anybody has anything else to add please do…
