A first flight by the last two airworthy Lancaster bombers has been postponed due to bad weather.

The Canadian Warplane Heritage’s aircraft was due to meet the UK-based Lancaster and then pass over Lincoln Cathedral, escorted by the Red Arrows.

However, due to bad weather in the area, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s aircraft were grounded.

The two Lancasters are due to give a series of displays across the country during August and September.

The Canadian plane, also hampered by the stormy weather, flew directly to the BBMF’s base at RAF Coningsby, landing just after 14:00 BST.

No, I’ve seen neither of the operation planes, but a couple of weeks ago I was at the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa where I saw the retired Lanc in their collection.  It’s nice that they have one.

As for Britain’s weather – well, the advice I’ve always heard whenever I’ve been to the UK is, “If you don’t like the weather, just wait ten minutes and you’ll get something different.”

I just wondered about the Lancaster, but realise navy is more your thing.
I have always loved planes and been able to see so many, living near London like I did as a child.

Historic Lancasters’ tandem flight takes place in Lincolnshire

Two World War Two Lancasters have flown together for the first time in 50 years.
The two aircraft will be taking part in more than 60 events and flypasts during the summer.

Lancaster bombers flypast at ‘Dambusters’ Derwent Dam

Thousands of people have watched the last two airworthy Lancaster bombers in the world fly over the site where the famous Dambusters raid was practised.

The Lancasters passed Derwent Dam in Derbyshire three times on their way back to RAF Coningsby, in Lincolnshire, from Southport Air Show.

The once in a lifetime sight was in tribute to the Dambusters crews and those killed in World War Two.

The Lancasters have been united for a series of events in the UK.

One, Thumper, is based in Lincolnshire, and the other, Vera, is normally based in Canada.

A Hurricane and Spitfire also passed over Derwent Dam earlier.

Thanks Marc. I have thought how much I would loved  to have attended an event. Life (family) caught up with me, So I could not go.
My wife even said a few weeks ago when I mentioned it, that we could have gone on a family outing!

Maddy, who’s already pretty sharp about A&A for a five-year-old, would probably have pointed to the Spitfire and the Lancasters overhead and said that she recognized them from the sculpts in your games.  I’m sure that would have been a proud moment for you.  :-)

Agreed. I know she does not recognise them though. She always chooses the American Carrier and Ft, incidentally. We have not been downstairs in the cellar to study for a long time now. My friend was lodging with us and we went down most days. He left over six months ago.
As long as she points out the Tiger (131 at Bovington), nothing else will matter.
Al is keen to let her see these war machines, but it will be a while yet.
