XDAP Final… eh, i mean, Semifinal - Allweneedishank vs. TeamBoldDutch

  • '12

    @Hank13:

    @Boldfresh:

    game still over.  game badly broken - not meant as any knock on these guys who played great.  but larry needs to work on the victory conditions, really extensively.

    I find it ironic/humorous that you make this statement the round before this game ends. Complaining about the victory cities is like complaining about the distance between bases in MLB. It is the game. Adjust, adapt and overcome or play t-ball instead (Risk?).

    Bold, please be as humble on here as you are in your PMs to us. You and Dutch have played an incredible game. As I mentioned to Dutch last week, it is a shame that there are pages and pages of drivel on this thread that has taken away from a truly outstanding game, one that I am sure many spectators have learned from. Making excuses and blaming the basic structure of the game cheapens how well you have played and it cheapens your partner by association. Please don’t do it.

    This kind of talk is also fairly insulting to us. While I give my partner far more credit for our success than I will take, I will say we work very hard to plan moves and develop long term and short term strategies. I realize that I am very fortunate to have arguably the best player on this site as a partner and I will say any skill that have comes from years of having my a** handed to me playing him on my kitchen table. That being said, we are where we are in this game and in this tournament, not because of luck or some sort of inherent structural problem with the game, but rather because of solid game play and excellent team work. To say otherwise is insulting and incredibly misleading.

    ~ H

    hank, i’m not diminishing the quality of your play one bit.  the first thing i said is that you have played a great game.  when we are all done, i will be happy to have a discussion with you and hank detailing what i have learned in this game and why i think the axis should never lose unless the allied bid goes well above perhaps 25 or 30… not sure yet.

    it took playing possibly the best axis experts in the world to see it, but i don’t think the allies can do all that much more to stop what you did than we did (of course, i’m sure it could be improved on).  conceptually, it seems the victory conditions are broken in this game, i will detail it to you later.

    bottom line though, you guys have played a great game.  just because you have the side i think has a dramatic advantage giving the victory conditions does not diminish your play.

    You are taking what im saying the wrong way is all hank.  Sorrt if it sounded bad or like I was complaining.  I am most certainly not.  Cheers

    Ok, thanks for the clarification. Look forward to that discussion after our game.

  • '12

    No problem.  Yeah lets talk after.  I had some major revelations that when I express them to you I think a lightbulb will go on.  You guys were wicked good in this game and maybe you were holding back, but there were things you could have done to put us in the ground long ago.  When you hear what I say u will never again even be a possible loss with the axis, barring unbelievable cow luck.

  • Thank peace pipe. We get to watch the best game of  the year again.

  • TripleA

    I like the Victory Conditions. It speeds the game up. Granted it gives the Axis an advantage, but that is what the bid is for.

  • TripleA

    So like… is this game over or what?

  • '12

    yes, it is over.  we are going one more round though.

  • '12

    @Cow:

    I like the Victory Conditions. It speeds the game up. Granted it gives the Axis an advantage, but that is what the bid is for.

    i was thinking the bid was not that high.  now i think the bid might be at least 20 (if no bomber).

  • '12

    there may technically exist a tiny chance of extending this game another round.  a tiny one.  but since that chance exists, we must play it out.

  • '17 '16 '15 '12

    So about those victory conditions: What you say is that when we as Allies + 6 lost to you, we never had a chance from G1 on, thanks to some game rules?

    Or we were not good enough to beat you, and you not good enough to beat Allweneedishank. I am looking forward to the revelations after the end of this match. Until then I will still believe that skill is the most deciding factor, barring many many rolls against probability, even if I agree that the Axis seems to have an advantage (not enough for me to beat allweeneed).

  • '12

    yes, you guys played great.  discussion after the match is complete.

  • '12

    Like cow says, if axis plays fast and loose the allies have a chance.  If axis plays patient and the match gets into extended rounds with large german and japanese airforces, the VC conditions break down I believe.

    we just got really lucky in china.  i need to pause and ask if you would like to use your low luck reroll.  but more importantly, i would like to ask if hank and love would like to continue the game after Larry’s (in my opinion flawed) victory condition rules give them the technical victory.  :-)

  • '12

    please don’t take that the wrong way guys - you will understand more after the post game discussion.  you have played a phenomenal axis game, completely within the ruleset. which is what we have to play by.  it’s just a shame a match as great as this one has to end the way it is going to end.

    we did make one potentially big mistake in this match when we attacked the neutrals.  however, even if we had not done so, i think a similar result was probably inevitable.  we actually did have victory within our grasp if a couple small things had gone our way (namely the 2 airstrikes in n italy and greater southern) but victory never should have been within our grasp, in fact, our chances could have been completely snuffed out long ago by what i will tell you after we are done.

    No on both counts :)

    (I envision myself taking a bit of a break after the league season ends and will probably only play the finals here)

  • '12

    if i had to guess, i would guess you guys (being the A&A geniuses you are) are well aware of what i’m going to tell you, you have just never shown it as far as i can tell.  until just now, that is.

    ironically, my LL reroll suggestion is probably what lost the game for us (unless you would not have made the amur attack without it).

  • '12

    not much help from the dice here at the end. watch us succeed in egypt only to have it negated by the LL reroll.

    anyway, i rolled for UK but the thing locked up trying to post so ignore the second set of dice coming.
