  • my good fortune was somewhat marred by my screw up in taking that extra hit on a carrier hence losing an extra couple planes, but I can’t complain  :lol:

    That makes up for uk although I really prefer having those german planes than japanese navy…

    I don’t think I can stop Japan anymore.

    You are just a much better player than me.
    Losing London is bad, but actually not that horrible. In my experience it’s very hard for Germany to overcome Russia after sealion. Especially after you lost a lot of your planes.
    So overall, I’m not that unhappy with Europe, although it could have been played better of course.

    But in the Pac I screwed up completely. I know my Allies play in Pacific is very lackluster in general, I am still searching for the right way to play there. But in this game I performed badly even for my standards.

    It might be a bit early for conceding. But as I said, I don’t feel I can stop Japan from winning (This will happen way before a possible Europe win). And any chance I might have to come back is based on the hope of getting very lucky - and I don’t want to win with heavy dice luck.

    So congratulations Hobo. I will analyze your play and possibly watch other games from you too, since I feel I can learn a lot from you!


  • well honestly it’s a bit premature since if there are big battles to be had, it’s really hard to say.  like the 95% battle for uk went pretty horribly.  in the last game you probably should have turtled in moscow and hoped you got lucky.  if not then surrender.  I know the odds would have been horrible but 5% is 5%.  I’ve lost so many 90% battles in my league games so far.

    if you want my advice, you have to go 1 way or the other for usa.  you can’t split forces.  I’ve been successful playing allies in both taking out japan and germany but whatever you choose it has to be all out.  the only problem with going after germany is japan taking 6 vc so at some point you have to do something even if germany is getting its ass kicked.

    honestly my plan in this game was to draw attention away from the pacific.  I knew you’d throw something from the usa after uk fell.  that meant sooner or later, japan would have the odds on some major battle, like the one we just did.  normally I would take any coin flip to take out a major us force in the pacific so when my odds were almost 90% it was a no brainer.  I almost attacked the us force in hawaii on turn 2 with only a 40% chance of mutual destruction.

    I think you are undercutting germany a bit against ussr after sealion.  yes it has to play defense but without any pressure from usa, I would have gone on the offensive fast and gotten to a point I could attrition ussr down.  normally I don’t even try sealion no matter how tempting but wanted to mix it up a little this game.

    As I said - I was lucky already in this game and any chance I might have left is only based on even more luck. I feel I don’t deserve a win now, since that would be more than the usual amount of “being lucky”.

    I feared that US needs to invest like 80% or more in one of the theatres. I don’t really like that play, since I feel it’s not historically accurate and just “feels wrong”.

    But when I play Axis, I really have a hard time when US goes heavy in the PAC. Only for a couple of rounds, maybe until 4 or 5. Usually by then, US never ever needs to invest in the pac anymore, since Anzac, China and UK-Pac can match and even surpass the japanese production and won’t need help then anymore.

    I will try this in my next game, excited to see if I can make it work too.

    I lost the only game, where I tried sealion. And this was only my 2nd loss playing allies, after being victim of sealion. I managed to win 4 or 5 times after losing london, though. So it’s just my personal experience with sealion.
