  • I’m not sure that holding Hawaii for this round would have really helped you that much, apart from getting the 5 IPC bonus (and denying me 5 IPC’s) for one more round.  I would have amassed my fleet this round off Johnston Island, including additional transports from the Europe map if I really needed them, then taken Hawaii back next round.  I think I’ve got 85% odds of taking back India this round (if I want to), so apart from the 15% chance of holding India, I don’t see how you could have won the game just on holding Hawaii alone.

    Obviously it was costly for you not to back off of Hawaii last turn and this was an oversight, but as mentioned previously, in IPC terms you only lost that battle by 12.  If you would have blocked with the destroyer, that’s a loss of 8 IPC’s right there (assuming you don’t hit back).

    I  thought, perhaps I am wrong, that if Japan held HAW and IND through (until) their next turn (meaning USA or one of the allies would have to liberate the isle’s (OR IND) this turn) then the game would be over due to Japan’s VC count? In fact, the trn’s I bought the turn before were going to be used to land 8 plus land units along with fgt’s into HAW to ensure it was held through their next turn. Am I mistaken?


  • You are absolutely correct.  But my earlier comment was already factoring this in.  I’m saying that you could not have held Hawaii and India for a complete turn, because I have an 85% chance of liberating India this turn with the UK.  Then, I would liberate Hawaii next turn.

    Good point on the 8 more infantry this turn though… I was saying that I would compensate for this by moving all my guys from Gibraltar to Mexico this turn so they could take part in the amphibious assault next turn, but it’s conceivable that you could have then blocked those transports with destroyers… would have to look at the map again to see what I could have done, but you may actually be right.
