Russia’s role is containing the Japanese on the ground… and if the Japanese player knows what it’s doing, E. Russia should be encircled by now. I say let the Americans handle the sea.

I feel like a Russia-Japan non aggression pact would make it too easy for Germany to be taken down. The real battle of the game is whether or not Japan gets to Russia before everyone else gets to Germany.

Agent Smith, you factor in the possibility of a lost Japanese bomber as if it was a battle of attrrition between Japan and Russia. It is not, hence your error. It does not matter if the bomber gets shot down. All that maters is impacting Russias income so that they can afford less infantry on the German front. See, you say “blah, blah, blah, it only does 3 IPC per turn.” But that is blatantly wrong. It does 3.5 per turn. You are factoring the potential loss of the bomber as if thuis makes the potential bombing run do less damage than it actually does. It is not attrition between Japan and Russia. Finally, there is no way it flies over multiple AA guns.

Finally, you asume that all the allies air power can be flown to U.K. B.S. I’d like to see a Japan player just trounce you. Thrown everything at Germany and its like rolling the dice that Japan doesn’t win the game outright. Here’s a factoid you might not know. If everyone throws everything at Germany and takes it and Japan throws everything at Russia and takes it, Japan will win. Most Japaness players surrender when Germany is taken. That is the wrong thing to do. It Japan control Russia they will win.

You should probably start playing with bids to help out the axis. You seem like a pretty good player who is ready to move on.

Quite frankly it doesn’t matter what Russia does on R1 (straight up) the Allies are going to win the game.

For the sake of argument though, I’ll Retake Man (heavy), probably take Chi, and do a variation of Pearl Lite.

The Reason bids should be considered is here is a typical R1 turn

1) Attack Ger sub with Rus sub (either win or chase off ger sub)
2) Kill Ger ships in baltic (2 ftrs, 1 trn)
3) Strafe/take Ukr
4) Strafe/take Man (or just reinforce yak)

There is just too much damage you can do. Russia is far to powerful when played right. Hence the need for RR with a 9-12 bid or just a 21-24 bid game.

Soviets must pull out of Soviet Far East on Russia’s first turn. If they do not Japan may be able to place sufficient forces on Manchuria to destroy any Russian forces that would retreat to Yakut on Russia’s second turn. I would recommend leaving one Russian infantry unit on SFE as a picket. The more targets Japan attempts to hit on its first turn the more chance of the dice going against them. In other words…don’t let Japan have the territory for free make them expend resources in order to take it. Not sure what Alaska has to do with all this though.

Exactly, this is a game…the designers spent many hours trying to make this game fair, challenging, diverse, and historically acurate. But you can’t have all it all. I do try new things to spice up the game…what I meant was that the main objectives for true success are basically the same. Travel too far off the beaten trail, and your toast…
