• Thanks so far Yanny heres a few more If you don’t mind.

    1. At one time you brought up something you called gear. What is gear?
    2. How does the server system work?
    3. Is it possible to have NPCs in your party?
    4. What will happen if you attack a important NPC such as a king, will you then be hunted down?
    5. You said the cities are big, what about the regular areas?
    6. Is it possible to get to a high level by yourself or will you have to join a group at a certain point?
    7. Can players create their own special weapons?

  • 1. At one time you brought up something you called gear. What is gear?

Items. Items make you what you are (However, Items are far more important for Melee classes than they are for Casters).

    2. How does the server system work?

There are 40someodd servers. All but 6 or 7 are exactly the same. Basically, you don’t have much contact with people outside your server. Your character only exists on the server which you created it on. Its a seperate world.

    3. Is it possible to have NPCs in your party?

    No.

    4. What will happen if you attack a important NPC such as a king, will you then be hunted down?

You won’t be hunted down. However, its likely that the ‘king’ will have many bodyguards and allies in the area. In addition, if you kill an important NPC, your faction will be hit hard with that NPC’s faction.

    5. You said the cities are big, what about the regular areas?

Bigger. It would take months to see every area of the game. I’ve played for 4 years and I probably have only seen 80% of the game.

    6. Is it possible to get to a high level by yourself or will you have to join a group at a certain point?

It is possible to get to a high level solo, although if your not a Druid, Mage, Necro, Sk, Wizard, or Ranger your going to have a tough time doing it. Its much more enjoyable, and takes much less time, if you group.

    7. Can players create their own special weapons?

Yep. There are about 10 player trade skills which can create anything from swords to pots to potions to foot warmers.

  • Thanks again for comming through with those answers, and If you don’t mind here’s another 7.

    1. About these servers, am I on a server through the whole life of a charcter? Can I switch to other servers?
    2. Is it possible to steal from important NPCs?
    3. If a important NPC is killed does it stay dead?
    4. When you go into combat does it just happen or do you see the monsters from a distance?
    5. At the begining of this Topic you said you were being disconnected alot cause you used a proxy. What exactly is a proxy? And why were you being disconnected?
    6. When you are killed can you be resurrected by another player?
    7. Is there nights and days??

  • 1. About these servers, am I on a server through the whole life of a charcter? Can I switch to other servers?

Except under very special circumstances, the character only exists on that server, and will stay that way.

    2. Is it possible to steal from important NPCs?

Rogues can pick pocket, but that almost always only results in money. If you want an item from an important NPC, usually you need to do a quest or just kill it.

    3. If a important NPC is killed does it stay dead?

Nope. Most important NPCs have a 1 week respawn time.

    4. When you go into combat does it just happen or do you see the monsters from a distance?

Its not Final Fantasy :) All NPCs are seen. If an NPC’s faction with you is low enough for it to attack you, and you are within a certain range, it will attack you.

    5. At the begining of this Topic you said you were being disconnected alot cause you used a proxy. What exactly is a proxy? And why were you being disconnected?

A proxy is a special kind of router. I was being disconnected because the Proxy does a quick refresh, and Everquest sees this and thinks I have been disconnected from the Internet. If your on dialup you should have no problem.

    6. When you are killed can you be resurrected by another player?

When you are killed, you respawn at your “bind” point (this is set when you start the game and can be changed easily). However, past level 10 (Before level 10, you respawn with your items and no experience loss) your items will be on your corpse and you will lose considerable amounts of experience. When resurrected, you are summoned directly to your corpse and regain some or all of the experience lost.

    7. Is there nights and days??

Yep. The sun sets and rises about once an hour (2 hours = 1 EQ day).

  • Thanks Yanny. And if its not overdoing it heres another 7.

    1. Are there oceans or Seas?
    2. If so can players own boats?
    3. Is it very hard see or fight at night?
    4. If a player goes around and keeps killings inportant NPCs will they become wanted? Will other NPCs or maybe players form bountyhunter groups and go after them.
    5. Do the classes gain levels at the same rate?
    6. Is there a skill system for charcters?
    7. If so can a charcter learn new skills?

  • 1. Are there oceans or Seas?

Yep. And they are among the biggest zones in the game.

    2. If so can players own boats?

Nope. The boats run between continents on a regular scheduel.

    3. Is it very hard see or fight at night?

Only if you are an Erudite/Human/Barbarian. They have no night vision.

. If a player goes around and keeps killings inportant NPCs will they become wanted? Will other NPCs or maybe players form bountyhunter groups and go after them.

Well, NPCs won’t actively search you out. However, they will become KoS to you (Kill on sight). If you get close enough to them, they will attack you.

    5. Do the classes gain levels at the same rate?

    Yes.

    6. Is there a skill system for charcters?

    Yes, see below.

    7. If so can a charcter learn new skills?

Yes. New skills must be trained at your guild trainer (Not just your starting city, any Warrior guild will train any warrior). Then, when you use them, the skills gradually rise.

  • Thank you again Yanny, here some more if its ok.

    1. Is there any fighting on the ships.
    2. Is there any ship to ship fighting?
    3. Is it possible to befriend any NPCs?
    4. Can you pick a server when you join EverQuest?
    5. Can you have different charcters on different servers?
    6. Can you fly in Everquest? For example with a spell?
    7. Are there sea monsters?

  • Ask until you cannot ask any more!

    1. Is there any fighting on the ships.

Not really. There is one zone which is just a giant pirate ship which you fight on. But for the most part, moving ships used for transporation cannot be fought upon.

    2. Is there any ship to ship fighting?

    No.

    3. Is it possible to befriend any NPCs?

NPCs won’t follow you around. However, if your faction is high enough, an NPC merchants will give you better prices.

    4. Can you pick a server when you join EverQuest?

You can have 8 characters on as many servers as you want. However, each character only exists on the server where it was created.

    5. Can you have different charcters on different servers?

    Yes. See above.

    6. Can you fly in Everquest? For example with a spell?

    Levitation spell.

    7. Are there sea monsters?

There are tons of monsters in some sea, none in others. Monsters will not attack boats.

  • Thanks for comming thru again. Here’s some more.

    1. Can you climb the mountains?
    2. Is it possible to ambush the monsters?
    3. How many people are on each server?
    4. Is it possible to damage or destroy buildings?
    5. Can you go under water?
    6. Can you summon more than one monster to help you, how long do they stay?
    7. At night Is the monsters more better at fighting?

  • 1. Can you climb the mountains?

    For the most part, yes.

    2. Is it possible to ambush the monsters?

    Not really.

    3. How many people are on each server?

Best estimates, 8000 total, 2000-3000 at once during prime time.

    4. Is it possible to damage or destroy buildings?

    No.

    5. Can you go under water?

Yes. However, you can only stay under as long as you can hold your breath. If you use the Enduring Breath spell, or an item with Enduring Breath as an effect, you can stay under forever.

    6. Can you summon more than one monster to help you, how long do they stay?

Generally, monsters won’t help you. However, Magicians, Necros, Beastlords, Shaman, Enchanters, and Sks can summon “pets” to fight for them. Only Magicians, Necros, and Beastlords are any good at it,

    7. At night Is the monsters more better at fighting

No, but many monsters only come out at night.

  • Thank you again. Here’s some more.

    1. What’s it like underwater? Are there any cities under water like under a dome or something?
    2. The pets that fight for you do they stay after the fight?
    3. Can you fight under water?
    4. In your opinion what is the best make up for a party? For example would you say 3 fighters,1mage,1healer1rouge is good?
    5. You say that a Shadowknight works best alone but not in groups, what penalties would 2 Shadowknights get for playing as a team with no others in the partry.
    6. How are the spells for Shadowknights? Any good?
    7. When you make a charcter how do you decide what will it look like?

  • . What’s it like underwater? Are there any cities under water like under a dome or something?

No domes :) However, there are several underwater zones. One is a ruined city from the lost elder civilization of the Kedge. Another is home to the Bloodgill Goblins. Its very strange underwater. The fights become 3d :) You have to watch above, below, and all around.

    2. The pets that fight for you do they stay after the fight?

Yes. They stay until you leave the zone or they die. However, the Crappy Cleric and Wizard pets only stay until the fight is over.

    3. Can you fight under water?

    Yep.

    4. In your opinion what is the best make up for a party? For example would you say 3 fighters,1mage,1healer1rouge is good?

Now this is a tough question. I have my own taste to parties, and its much different than most EQers out there. I prefer overlapping roles, meaning two tanks, two heals, two supporters, two damage dealers. Now, obviosly you can only have 6 people in a group and thats 8 slots to fill. So, I prefer picking classes which can fill more than one slot. I tend to stay away from the Rogues, Warriors, and sometimes clerics because of this (most specialized classes).

Ideal group for me (Me being the Mage) - Paladin, Shaman, Beastlord, Bard, Mage, Wizard.

Why? Let me explain bit by bit (to give you a feel for grouping).

The Paladin is the tank. He takes the damage, and pisses the mob off enough (through his stun spells) to keep it off me and the wizard. He can also help the Shaman heal during downtime. Paladins do melee damage, but not an incredible amount (Only Bards do worse).

The Beastlord is the backup tank. He, and his pet, deal out massive damage. In addition, the Beastlord has a unique series of buff spells (enchancing abilities) which can greatly increase our capabilities. The Beastlord can cast mid level “Slow” spells, which greatly reduce a monster’s damage output.

The Shaman is the prime healer. He can cast very powerful buff spells. The Shaman also has the most powerful slow spell in the game. However, this slow spell REALLY pisses off the monster. Although Shaman can take more hits than any other non-melee class, he will still get killed easily if the monster is hitting him for more than 15 seconds. So, the Beastlord casts slow early in the fight (and getting hit, since the Paladin has not taunted the monster enough, but the Beastlord can take hits) while the Paladin builds up enough hate. Then the Shaman will cast his very very powerful slow, overrighting the Beastlord slow, and not get hit.

Bard - The bard can do anything, much like the Dnd bard. A bard melees, though very poorly. A bard however can cast very powerful songs. These songs can enhance your abilities, weaken the monster’s, do damage, make you run faster, ect ect. In addition, the Bard’s songs are probably the single biggest increase to Mana Regeneration you can get.

Wizard - The Wizard is the master of nuking shit and splattering it’s insides a mile away. When a Wizard wants something dead, its going to die. The wizard has the best direct damage magical spells in the game. The wizard however does not do incredibly amounts of damage over long periods of time, as they do not have the mana to keep up a constant flow of big nukes. Wizards, in addition, have great snare and stun spells which can keep a monster from running away and calling friends. Wizards can casy evacuation spells, which will teleport you away from the fight.

Mage - Aaah the mage. My class, my favorite class. Mages are the kings of damage. Mage pets are the best in the game, outdamaging most Warriors, Bards, Paladins and Shadowknights by themselves. In addition, the Mage is the second best direct damage dealer, able to come close to the gut splattering abilities of the Wizard. Mage can sustain far more damage than any class in the game. In addition, when the Mage and Wizard want shit dead, they will blast that worthless monster harder than you can imagine. Great combo.

    5. You say that a Shadowknight works best alone but not in groups, what penalties would 2 Shadowknights get for playing as a team with no others in the partry.

No class gets penalties for being grouped. Group members simply split experience (2 Group members - Half as much exp per mob compared to a solo kill). Shadowknights, among other classes, simply don’t offer as much to a group as most other classes. To compensate for this, they excell at soloing.

    6. How are the spells for Shadowknights? Any good?

Not great until much higher levels. Shadowknights get pets, but they are obsolete by the time they get them. Shadowknights have access to powerful snare and fear spells, which is why they excell so much at soloing.

    7. When you make a charcter how do you decide what will it look like?

    Yep.

  • Thanks again Yanny. Here’s a few more.

    1. What is mana?
    2. You made a statement last reply about “the crappy Cleric” why is the cleric crappy?
    3. Is a Shadowknight a tank or a pushover. Can he really dish out the pain like other tanks?
    4. What is the diferrence between a Mage and a Wizard. I thought they were the same?
    5. What kind of pets are we talking about any good ones or will i just get some standard stuff. Will a high level Wizard be able to summon demons?
    6. What is the best race in your opinion to be a ShadowKnight?
    7. Will being a ShadowKnight for my first charcter be a mistake?

  • 1. What is mana?

Mana controls your ability to cast spells. You have a numerical value of mana (For example, my main character has about 2500 mana). Each spell that is cast or fizzled costs a certain amount of mana. You regain mana by Meditating, through certain spells, or very slowly by just standing.

    2. You made a statement last reply about “the crappy Cleric” why is the cleric crappy?

I was refering to the Cleric pet. Its really bad, really really really bad. Its just a giant hammer which does barely any damage and disapeared after one fight. It can’t even take any damage, it’s hp is so low that if its attacked twice by anything its probably dead.

    3. Is a Shadowknight a tank or a pushover. Can he really dish out the pain like other tanks?

Tanks don’t dish out pain, they take it. Shadowknights can’t take as much damage as a Paladin or Warrior, but besides that they are amazing tanks. However, they’re spells don’t really compliment tanking much, though this is somewhat made up by their larger choice of armor to pick from.

    4. What is the diferrence between a Mage and a Wizard. I thought they were the same?

A Mage (Magician) specializing in summoning elemental pets. These pets are the best in the game, capable of out damaging most Warriors, Paladins, or Shadowknights alone. A Mage can summon a plethora of items, some useful some not, and can cast nukes (Direct Damage spells) very well, with only the Wizard being a better nuker. A Mage can sustain more damage in a group over a long period of time than any other class can.

A Wizard is purely a nuker, with some other small utilities added in. They can make shit dead when they want to, fast. A wizard is capable of dishing out thousands of damage per spell. A wizard also has teleportation spells, able to send others and themselves all over the world. In addition, Wizards get powerful Roots, Snares, and Stuns to augment their nuking power, Mages get none of those.

What kind of pets are we talking about any good ones or will i just get some standard stuff. Will a high level Wizard be able to summon demons?

Wizards don’t get any real pets. They can summon Familiars (Can’t fight, they are just a glorifed buff) at higher levels. The one Wizard pet is worse than the Cleric one. Mages can summon Elementals, but no demons. Necros summon skeletons, Beastlords summon their animal companions, Shamans summon wolves, Enchanters can summon pretty crappy sword and shield pets.

    6. What is the best race in your opinion to be a ShadowKnight?

Hard to say, let me give you a rundown.

Erudite - Best intelligence, weakest combat skills. Bad idea unless you plan on exclusively soloing.

Humans - Third worst intelligence, second weakest combat skills. Also probably a bad idea.

Dark Elves - Average combat skills (though low str), third highest intelligence. Decent choice if you don’t mind being completely hated by almost all.

Gnome - Aaah, the best on Norrath. Gnomes rule all. They have decent combat skills, though no where close to an Ogre or Troll’s skill. They have the second best intelligence (1 point above Dark Elf).

Ogre- Pure combat. Cannot be stunned from the front. Lots of Hit Points. Downsides, incredibly low intelligence. Big size (hard to fit indoors, especially a problem in many dungeons). Bad choice in my opinion.

Troll - Another pure combat. Almost as strong as Ogres, almost as many hit points. They regenerate Hit Points at a faster rate. They have an experience penalty, it will take you 30% longer to level than other races. Worst intelligence in the game.

Iksar - Modest choice. Slightly better combat skills than the Gnome (Probably falling 3rd or 4th overall). Same int as a Human. Regens like a troll, has experience penalty like a troll. Need Kunark Expansion to play.

By the way, More intelligence = more mana.

    7. Will being a ShadowKnight for my first charcter be a mistake?

If you pick a Gnome, you should be ok. You will however have the burden of being hated most everywhere outside of gnome and evil cities (Gnomes being Neutral). I have a Gnome Shadowknight already, you can have all of his items (I don’t play him anymore). That will give you a big boost throughout the world.

  • Thanks Yanny. Here’s 7 more.

    1. Are the trolls as big as orges?
    2. Does the ShadowKnight have access to any teleportation spells?
    3. Have you tried any of the Player Killer Servers? Is it really more harder to play?
    4. Can ShadowKnights control undead?
    5. Can ShadowKnights summon demons?
    6. How does a party form? Do you just say “hey now we are a party”
    7. Are there guilds or places to go to look for jobs for quests?

  • 1. Are the trolls as big as orges?

Slightly smaller, but its still a big problem.

    2. Does the ShadowKnight have access to any teleportation spells?

    None.

    3. Have you tried any of the Player Killer Servers? Is it really more harder to play?

I have played a lot on Sullon Zek. It is a lot harder, its practically a different game. In addition, because EQ was never designed for pvp, there are tons of bugs in the pvp system. It will be practically impossible to survive on a pvp server without playing the game on a “bluebie server” (non pvp server).

    4. Can ShadowKnights control undead?

Yes. They can summon Skeleton pets (fairly weak, better at higher levels) to do damage for them. In addition, they get many spells which effect only undead, such as Ward Undead and Invisibility to Undead.

    5. Can ShadowKnights summon demons?

Demons don’t really exist in the game. No one can summon them.

    6. How does a party form? Do you just say “hey now we are a party”

After agreeing to group up, one player (who thereafter becomes the “party leader”), presses the “invite” key (or pressed ctrl + i). The other party member(s) hit the accept key, and the party is formed. Experience is split equally between party members. You can have up to 6 members in a party.

    7. Are there guilds or places to go to look for jobs for quests?

Guilds mainly are used to train new skills and buy certain spells. However, most guilds will contain quest NPCs who give out lower level quests for newbies. If your looking for quests, tons of NPCs in each town often will give them out.
