You will still get to roll what you selected to lose and detect subs if it is a destroyer. I believe triple a does this right, because even though both sides have dd and sub, you still technically roll subs first.
-
No scramble.

no you only roll DEFENDING subs first if there is a surprise strike.
-
The reason sub rolls always go first is that subs can only kill naval, so it works both ways, attacker sub roll first defender take casualty, defender sub goes attacker take casualties, everything else rolls.
In a casual game you probably roll all at once to speed things up, it is a minor issue… because your losses still get to roll.
We could check the faq for the ruling, because the book is kind of ambiguous on this one.

normally all defenders roll AFTER the attacker. the ONLY exception is if there are defending subs that are allowed a surprise strike.

you are just wrong Cow. i’m sorry, i don’t mean to be rude, just stating the facts. the ONLY TIME a defender will EVER roll before an attacker is if there are defending subs when there is attacking naval without an attacking destroyer.
-
Subs can only hit naval and not air. That is why they always roll first. It makes sense to me.

i can’t argue that it makes SENSE to you Cow, i can only argue that you are wrong.

I rather just ask kreig in the faq. I would search for sub rules, but people ask so many other questions.

go ahead and ask krieg, please! you will be reconfirmed as to the fact that you are incorrect.
-
the fact that subs hit only naval and not air is irrelevant. all sub hits must be assigned if possible. so it does not matter if they roll first or not in that regard. the only time it matters if they roll first is if there is no destroyer present and they could possibly hit naval BEFORE the attacker has rolled.
-
Minor issue anyway. I guess it matters for 106… but it would only matter in the event I score 1 hit with my subs and you score 2 hits with your other 2 naval units. Otherwise keep the destroyer and continue to attack.
So it matters for one possible event, I see your point. If you double hit the subs, you would prefer to keep the cruiser. Edit if that happens.
I am not too picky or stuck up about these things. I will just ask the faq. We can edit in a cruiser if that event occurs and the faq tells me I am wrong.

you are wrong cow. to be proper, battles where it matters should be rolled on the aa.org dicey and not in tripleA.
-
hey Cow, you never told me where to find your strategy guides. i’m still looking for some comedy to read and i can’t think of anything better at the moment. please post the link?
-
Boldfresh, it might not matter anyway. I am rolling subs and the difference is just a destroyer becomes a cruiser. Pretty minor issue we can correct. It is not a game changer. I am not going to sz 109 next turn.
It will be ok. It will be ok.

cow, some people can just find it SO difficult to admit they are wrong - might you be one of them?
-
You got to prove it first.
-
Veqryn can make changes, but please base it off of official rules.
