One of the major improvements to the Soviet armed forces that came out of the Winter War was the replacement of Kliment Voroshilov by Semyon Timoshenko as People’s Commissar for Defence. Voroshilov had helped Stalin carry out the Great Purge by denouncing some of his military colleagues, and (as I recall) he reversed some of the army reforms that his predecessors had carried out. He also bungled the opening phases of the Winter War, and was eventually turfed out in favour of the more competent Timoshenko. After the Soviets won in Finland, Timoshenko set about modernizing the Red Army.
Hitler's British Headquarters

Nazi documents suggest Adolf Hitler planned to make his personal headquarters in Shropshire if he had successfully invaded Britain during World War II.
Historians think he considered Shropshire as the ideal base because it was located in the centre of the country with excellent rail and communication links.
The historical maps illustrate how the Nazis had earmarked Bridgnorth as a town they wanted to move into as a potential base.

Thanks Marc. Would just like to say I think Bridgenorth is not what anyone would call an attractive town and I was not aware it was on any important rail lines.
Interesting choice, but perhaps not the correct one! -

The forest near Rastenburg where Hitler established the Wolf’s Lair wasn’t exactly an ideal location either. It was pretty much in the middle of nowhere.

Sometimes the middle of nowhere is exactly where you want to be.
Especially when you’re trying to avoid unruly populations.
Look at the last G7 summit held in Canada. It was hosted in a town with less than 10,000 population,
And guess what? NO PROTESTS!
